Rakyat Sarawak sejati tidak akan khianati Sarawak - Abdul Karim

December 02, 2018

All round aye for establishment of Consultative Committee

Abdul Karim giving his winding up speech after 31 members of DUN debated on his ministerial motion for the the establishment of the Consultative Committee in the State Legislative Assembly today.
KUCHING: All members of the State Legislative Assembly including the opposition were unanimous today to support the establishment of a Consultative Committee to determine and agree upon the representations for submission to the Sarawak representatives of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Steering Committee.

This was in response to the formation of MA63 Steering Committee on Sept 5 and chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which was described as being lopsided with only three representations from Sarawak.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (PBB – Asajaya) moved the establishment of the Consultative Committee in his ministerial motion under Standing Order 23(1)(a) read together with Standing Order 89 and Article 24(1) of the State Constitution.

DUN Sarawak sebulat suara sokong penubuhan Jawatankuasa Perundingan MA63

‘Immigration autonomy integral right of Sarawak in MA63’

KUCHING: Opposition MP, Umno stalwart and supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz has been told to read back history books on how Malaysia was formed before making presumptions that Sarawak will lose its immigration autonomy upon gaining equal status with Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia as regions.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday said immigration autonomy is an integral right of Sarawak and there should not be any compromise on it.

“Likewise, it’s the same with the status of Sarawak as signatory to the Malaysia Agreement.

“Sarawak penned the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) with Federation of Malaya and not with Perak or any of the Malayan states,” pointed out Abdul Karim, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) vice president and Asajaya assemblyman.

Abdul Karim doubts PH govt will be able to fulfil all manifesto pledges within 100 days

August 9, 2018

However, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah doubted that the PH federal government could do that in time as promised by PH in its election manifesto.

“Looking back, almost none of the pledges has been done in full,” he said.

Mahathir got it all wrong on 20% royalty, says Sarawak minister

July 21, 2018

PBB vice-president Karim Abdul Rahman Hamzah says there is a big difference between the existing deal Sabah and Sarawak have been receiving, which is 5% of gross sales, and the one Mahathir proposed to give.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) veep Karim Abdul Rahman Hamzah says the prime minister is only trying to pacify oil-producing states by saying royalty is increased to 20% of profit.

KUCHING: A Sarawak politician is unimpressed by the recent announcement made by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Sabah and Sarawak will definitely be given a 20% oil royalty but the calculation will be based on profits instead of gross sales.

Speaking to FMT, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Karim Abdul Rahman Hamzah said Mahathir had got it all wrong and his announcement of 20% royalties from profit will not go down well with the people in both the Bornean states.

“Royalty is a payment made to a legal owner of properties while profit is a financial benefit realised when revenue from a business activity exceeds the expenses, production cost and tax.

Dr M salah tentang royalti 20%, kata menteri Sarawak

July 21, 2018

PPBM intends to split Sarawakians, asserts PBB leader

KUCHING, June 27: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) intention to expand to Sarawak was to split Sarawakians.

The ultimate aim, he added, was to seize control of the state after dividing its people into small factions.

“It (PPBM) just wants to come over to split us into small fractions. It is here to split the Bumiputera. It does not want to see Sarawakians staying united,” Abdul Karim told DayakDaily today.

No reason for PPBM to enter Sarawak, unless Mahathir doesn't trust the state PH

June 26, 2018

KUCHING, June 26: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM)’s plan to enter Sarawak can be perceived as Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the peninsula not trusting its Sarawak counterpart.

This is how state Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah puts it: “Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent announcement that PPBM is considering opening up branches in Sarawak could mean that he does not believe (in) the local base PH coalition.”

Speaking to reporters after attending the Rainforest Fringe Festival 2018 briefing, Abdul Karim opined that since the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) were already here, there should be no reason for Dr Mahathir to bring his party (PPBM) to Sarawak, unless he does not trust the local base PH.

Manifesto PH tiada kejujuran, kata Abdul Karim

Karim hopes Mahathir will apologise to Sarawakians

September 23, 2017

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hopes former premier Tun Mahathir Mohamad could fight to return the State's rights - and apologise to Sarawakians.

The minister, in a press statement yesterday, pointed out that it was during Mahathir's premiership that most of Sarawak’s rights enshrined under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) were taken away.

“I hope this time he could fight to return Sarawak’s rights and apologise to the people of Sarawak,”  he said as reported by The Borneo Post.

‘Too late’ for Dr M to say sorry for past mistake — Abdul Karim

August 27, 2016

KUCHING: It is too late for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to regret and feel sorry for his decision of amending the Federal Constitution to restrict the role of Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the legislative branch, says Assistant Minister for Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Still, Abdul Karim – also Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports – believes that ‘it is better late than never’, as far as Dr Mahathir is concerned.

“Tun Mahathir, during his tenure as prime minister, had curtailed the powers of the Agong as the final ‘safeguard’ for the passing of the laws.

“He also removed judges whom he felt, back then, were a hindrance to him. It’s good that he has finally realised his mistake and apologised for it,” he said.

Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, said now that Dr Mahathir had admitted his mistake, it would be up to the present federal administration to relook into these amendments to the Federal Constitution and review on the need to revert it to how it was before.

In 1994, the Malaysian government, led by Dr Mahathir, passed amendments to the Constitution that would allow any Bill passed in the Parliament and the Senate to become law within 30 days – with or without the royal assent.

Dr Mahathir said it would seem that due to the amendments, the new National Security Council (NSC) Act had become operational, even though the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had not signed it.

Dr M has lost his charm, says state BN politicians

July 16, 2016

KUCHING: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's new party would not have an impact in the state in the coming general election.

A Supreme Council member of PBB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said: "...people are already fed up with Dr Mahathir, who is fighting for something so different from (what he fought for) when he was the prime minister."

"And now he is trying to pretend to be an angel,” added Abdul Karim in reference to the infamous ‘Lalang Operation’.

Abdul Karim was giving his comment to a local english daily recently.

Meanwhile the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Masing was reported to have similar view on Mahathir.

He regarded the former premier as ‘having lost his charm’.

Masing believed that with the two Borneo states being the fixed deposits for BN, the coalition would continue to triumph in the next general election.

‘Anti-Najib movement an unfortunate episode in country’s history’

KUCHING: The anti-Najib movement led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and opposition leaders has been described as an unfortunate episode in the country by Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“It is out of my wildest dream that the ‘Hunter’ and the ‘Hunted’ could sit down and be in the same ‘Team’.

“How juicy can Malaysia’s political scene be? It sounds a bit like a Hindustani movie, however, this time it is for real,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

“Personally I think Tun Mahathir should stay ‘above board’ and avoid politics, he has his days. As such, he should just be a senior statesman and a person whom the present leaders can seek for his views and opinion for the good of the nation. It’s just unfortunate he chooses to be directly involved in such movement.”

Abdul Karim opined that Mahathir should respect the mandate that the ‘rakyat’ had given Najib in the 13th General Election (GE13) and leave the present administration alone.

“He has poked his nose at former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and now he is doing the same against current prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Does he think he is the only capable prime minister?” Abdul Karim questioned.

On another development, Abdul Karim who is also the Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Urban) said the State Barisan Nasional (BN) is not taking the forthcoming state election lightly despite being confident of a sure win.

Generasi muda mesti dalami sejarah

Setiausaha Agung Barisan Nasional (BN) Negeri, Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi mengingatkan generasi muda agar tidak memperjudikan masa depan mereka semata-mata kerana ingin-kan perubahan.

Don’t think of overthrowing govt via violence — Karim

May 27, 2012

1MALAYSIA: Karim (seventh right, second row) does the ‘1Malaysia’ gesture, joined by veterans at Sibu Gateway.
SIBU: Youth Development Assistant Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday urged anyone with the intention to overthrow the government through violent means to abort the plan.

Abdul Karim warned it could plunder the country into turmoil, causing investors to shy away and bring suffering.

He was responding to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s view that opposition leaders might resort to prolonged violent demonstrations to win the 13th general election (GE) if democratic approach would not yield victory.

“This is the personal opinion of Tun (Dr Mahathir)… I can see some truth in it but I hope this will not happen.

“Probably, some leaders inside PR might have been influenced by what happened in Arab countries (violent demos and taking over the government).

The prelude to the GE looks like some attempt to that nature.

“Could that be why they had this series of Bersih or whatever they call it, suggesting they may be moving along that line?” he told thesundaypost after officiating at the Perhimpunan Sempena Jelajah Pendaftaran Kumpulan Veteran Tentera Tidak Berpencen (KVTTB) at Sibu Gateway here.
