Abd Karim: State BN committed to protect Sarawak’s land rights


SIBU: Sarawak BN is committed to protect the state’s land rights; hence, all federal projects involving land were vetted accordingly before approvals were given.

Citing the ‘Rumah Mesra’ scheme by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) as an example, Assistant Minister for Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the project was slightly delayed because the state government objected to native land for affordable housing being charged to the Federal Land Commissioner.

“SPNB had to accept Sarawak’s proposal for the land status being maintained and not charged to a federal agency,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday in response to a statement by Pending assemblyman Violet Yong recently.

“This shows how committed Sarawak BN government is towards preserving state rights.”

Yong had called on the government to ensure the state’s land rights were not eroded by the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) programme.

She said PR1MA was a federal initiative, but it involved using state land.

In thanking Yong for her concern, Abdul Karim said in the case of PR1MA, approvals had to go through the State Planning Authority (SPA); therefore, there is no question of the state’s rights being infringed.

Housing prices will keep soaring — Abdul Karim

Housing prices are expected to keep soaring despite the government’s continued efforts to strive for a balance between demand and supply by constructing more affordable houses.

Assistant Minister for Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said a residential unit which is priced at RM100,000 today might be valued at RM1 million 10 years later.

“In the 70s, a single-storey terrace house was available at RM14,000 but now it is priced at or over RM350,000. What happens now is that the demand exceeds the supply,” he said when responding to questions raised by Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (BN-Pantai Damai) and Ripin Lamat (BN-Lambir) in the august House yesterday.

Karim pointed out that the state government had launched several initiatives to monitor housing prices particularly those of the affordable houses intended for the low-income group.

To ensure that people could own a house, he said ceiling prices had been set for low-cost houses at RM50,400 per intermediate unit and RM59,220 per corner unit.

“For medium-cost houses, we have fixed RM80,000 for intermediate units and RM100,000 for corner lots. In addition, we have also launched projects such as Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR), Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR), Rumah Mampu Milik (PMM), MyHome Scheme and Program Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1Malaysia.”

He said the Industralised Building System (IBS) was also encouraged for developing housing projects to bring down the construction costs.

‘Cost, land availability among criteria for low-cost houses’

THE COST and availability of land are among the factors the state government had to look into to construct low-cost houses within the city centre.

Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said if the government through its agencies were to acquire lands that are situated within the city, house buyers would have to pay quite a high compensation for their house.

“This would in a way increase the cost of development or construction for these houses which would not be feasible for the government to do and that’s why most of the low-cost houses in the state are placed near to the fringe of the city,” he said when responding to a question by David Wong Kee Woan (DAP-Pelawan) on the distance of low-cost houses under the 11th Malaysia Plan from city centre at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday.

Abdul Karim said there was no specific mileage on how far low-cost houses should be built as there were some that were built within the city centre.

“But most of the time, we will try to look for landed property that are within the fringe of the city. That’s why in Kuching, you see a lot of them in Matang, Batu Gong as well as many that are coming up in Demak whereas in Sibu, you can see them in Rantau Panjang and Sibu Jaya.”

On a related question from Yap Hoi Liong (DAP-Dudong) regarding the number of low-cost houses built throughout the state from 2015 to 2017, Abdul Karim said various state and federal agencies had completed the building of 500 units of low-cost houses in Miri this year while a total of 439 low-cost houses and 113 People Friendly Houses (Rumah Mesra Rakyat) in Kuching would be completed next year.

“Under the 11th Malaysia Plan, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has proposed to build 8,361 units of low-cost houses in Kuching, 405 units in Sibu, 1,512 units in Bintulu, 1,905 units in Miri, 372 units in Mukah, 500 units in Limbang, 380 units in Kapit and 98 units in Kanowit.

“However, the implementation of these projects is subject to availability of fund approved by the government,” he noted.

He added that for the private sector, the number of low-cost houses to be built in future would depend on the private sector’s application.

“For 2015, the number of approved low-cost houses under the private sector as at November in Kuching is 27 units and Bintulu 45 units. There was no application approved yet for Sibu, Miri, Mukah, Limbang and Kapit.

This prompted Yap to question why no applications were approved for Sibu, which led Abdul Karim to retort that the approval for low-cost housing depended on the demand.

“As it is, if you were to check in Sibu, there are low-cost houses already constructed in Rantau Panjang and Sibu Jaya. I’m not too sure if you’ve got your record right on this, that there’s no approval for Sibu,” he remarked.

“My answer earlier on was that there’s no application for Sibu but there are low-cost houses being constructed in Sibu and I can say that Sibu has got quite a big chunk of low-cost houses that have been approved,” he added.

On what measures the state government would take to safeguard the quality of low-cost houses, Abdul Karim said two mechanisms were used to achieve this.

“The first mechanism is to ensure that at the planning approval stage, low-cost houses fulfil the requirements of the Development Control Standard (DCS) and other planning requirements in terms of sizes of the houses, setbacks, roading, open spaces, amenities and facilities.”

“The second mechanism is at the Building Approval stage where building design and structure are regulated through the Building Ordinance and issuance of Occupation Permit (OP). The issuance of OP will be done once the Qualified Submitting Person (QSP) certifies that the construction and completion are in compliance with the approved plan.”

Karim urges the government to convert TOL to permanent ownership





ASAJAYA: The government has been urged to look at the possibility of converting Temporary Occupation License (TOL) to permanent ownership.

Assistant Minister for Youth Development (Urban) and Assistant Minister for Housing Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said time has changed and there was a need to look at the policy of TOL.

He said that the government need to look at the policy and if possible, convert it to permanent title so that the land owners could use them for deposit to apply for loan to build their houses.

Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman said this at the presentation of Land Ownership Titles and Temporary Occupational License (TOL) for Asajaya district by Minister of Resource Planning and Environment II, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hassan at Asajaya Sports Complex here yesterday.

According to him, in this way the holders of TOL could make effort to build their houses.

He said the actual cost of constructing a house now is at least RM50,000 based on the estimated cost of building a PPRT house of Rumah Mesra Rakyat.

He said the requirement for TOL was that they must build houses on the land within five years and if they didn't the government had the right to take back the land.

860 lot rumah akan disediakan di Silviculture Batu 11 Jln Oya


KUCHING: Dianggarkan 860 lot rumah akan disediakan di Silviculture Batu 11 Jalan Oya Sibu, kata Menteri Muda Perumahan Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Bagaimanapun, jelas beliau memandangkan projek tersebut masih dalam peringkat perancangan awal, kriteria khusus untuk pemilihan penduduk yang akan mendapat lot di kawasan itu belum diputus-kan lagi.

“Namun, keutamaan akan diberi kepada penduduk Kampung Datu dan juga keluarga tambahan tertakluk kepada garis panduan yang akan kami rangka nanti,” katanya pada Persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri di sini, semalam.

Beliau menyatakan demikian bagi menjawab soalan daripada Dr Annuar Rapa’ee (BN-Nangka) mengenai bila perkampungan moden yang akan diwujudkan di Silviculture Batu 11 Jalan Oya Sibu akan mula dibina serta kriteria pemilihan untuk penduduk mendapat lot.

Terdahulu, Karim yang juga ADUN Asajaya menjelaskan bahawa pihak LCDA sedang menyediakan pelan susun atur untuk dikemukakan kepada Majlis Perancangan Negeri untuk kelulusan.

Tambah beliau, projek tersebut akan mula dilaksanakan dalam RMK-11 (2016-2020) iaitu tertakluk kepada peruntukan yang diluluskan.

Sementara berhubung status Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) di daerah Mukah dan daerah kecil Balingian, Karim berkata sebanyak 75 unit RMR telah siap dibina di daerah Mukah iaitu 27 unit di Skim Pembesaran Kampung Petanak dan 48 unit di Skim Pembesaran Kampung Nelayan.

Karim: Govt targets zero squatters in state by 2020


KUCHING: Land and Survey Department census shows there are 2,507 household heads in squatter areas on government land in Piasau, Pujut and Senadin constituencies.

Assistant Housing Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told the august house yesterday in response to Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck’s question on the status of squatters in Miri which totaled about 4,000.

“The record given was based on a comprehensive survey carried out on those squatting on government land only and excluding those on private land,” Karim pointed out.

On plans and measures taken to tackle squatter issues in the state, Karim said the government had implemented various schemes and initiatives in an effort to achieve zero squatter status by 2020.

“First, a management and settlement committee was set up under the state Housing Ministry and Land and Survey Department to address squatter issues and the committee meets twice a year,” he said.

Karim added that the government had also implemented the state squatter action plan approved in 2010 which was monitored by the committee.

“This plan comprised strategic courses covering aspects of local planning, enforcement and development of housing in order to address squatter issues in a comprehensive and integrated manner.

KUCHING: Sekeda rumah panjai ke enda setuju enggau tukuh ke digaga Opis Pemansang Pengawa Berumah (HDC) tau madahka tukuh ti dikedeka sida.

Menteri Muda Pengawa Berumah, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah madah, enti sema tukuh ke digaga HDC bisi penanggul sereta enda baka ti dikedeka sida, pekara nya patut dipejuraika.

“Enti bisi penanggul, pekara nya ulih diperunding. Penemu kami, asal iya enda lari ari tukuh asal rumah panjai nya empu.

“Rumah panjai patut ngembuan tukuh ke mandangka pengidup begulai…bisi ruai, tanju, tempuan, bilik, dapur. Kelebih agi baka ruai alai mayuh ngatur aktiviti. Tang enti bisi timbal madahka ruai ke ditukuh HDC nya kelalu mit, pekara baka tu patut dipejuraika,” ku Abdul Karim seraya madah, orang ke ngempu tanggungpengawa ngaga rumah panjai baru tu, Menteri Muda Pengawa Berumah enggau Pemansang Menua Pesisir, Datuk Francis Harden.

Lalu baka nya mega enggau bilik, ku iya, laban bilik rumah panjai enti nitih sigi besai laban nitihka pemayuh tubuh sesepintu.

“Enti enda salah aku pemesai bilik nya kada enda urung 700 kaki besegi, lebih kurang baka Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR), tang taja pia, agi bisi tanah ke belakang rumah panjai nya, enti sema sida iya deka ngaga besai agi.

“Enti kitai meda, maya ngemesaika rumah panjai, ke belakang kin ke digaga sida iya besai agi,” ku iya.

Original site for Meludam RMR scheme unsuitable


MINISTRY of Housing, through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has originally planned to build 20 units “Rumah Mesra Rakyat” (RMR) houses under the Meludam Village Expansion Scheme.

This was dislcosed by Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who said Lot 2011-2380, Block 1, Triso Land District, Meludam were supposed to be the site of the scheme. 

“However, a study conducted by HDC on the site for the Meludam Village Expansion Scheme project revealed that the site is unsuitable for housing as the area is prone to flooding,” he said.

He added that the HDC had formally applied to Betong Land and Survey Department for a new site which is at Lot 1986-2010, Block 1, Triso Land District, Meludam. 

“The application is currently under consideration by the Land and Survey Department,”said Karim in reply to Hajah Simoi Haji Peri (BN-Lingga) who had enquired when the Meludam Village Expansion Scheme project would start, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Thursday.

On Simoi’s second question regarding the second phase of the Lingga Village Expansion Scheme in Sri Aman, Karim said HDC had carried out land filling works at the 41-lot site. 

“Of the 41 RMR units, 15 have been completed under Phase I and handed over to successful participants.

RMR ba Meludam deka digaga ba taba baru – Karim


KUCHING : Opis Menteri Pengawa Berumah nengah Opis Pemansang Pengawa Berumah (HDC) kala merambu deka ngaga 20 pintu Rumah Mesra Rayat (RMR) ba taba Skim Pembesaran Kampung Meludam, ba Lot 2001-2380, Blok 1, Triso Land District, Maludam. Penulung Menteri Pengawa Berumah enggau Pemansang Raban Nembiak (Bandar) Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah madah, taja baka nya pengudah diperesa HDC taba ke deka endur ngentak rumah nya (Skim Pembesaran Kampung Meludam) enda manah endur nirika rumah laban tanah ba endur nya mudah kena ampuh bah.

Ari 41 buat lot nya, ku Karim bisi 15 pintu RMR tembu digaga sereta udah diberi ngai bala pesereta ke bisi ngambi bagi nitihka renggat keterubah .

"Nengah renggat kedua, HDC benung merambu deka ngagai 26 buah laluh RMR ke agi tinggal. Enggau nya, HDC bisi minta agih belanja tambah dikena nyediaka perengka rama ngagai Opis Negeri ngambika diperunding. "Nya alai, projek ba renggat kedua deka berenkah dipejalaika enti sema agih belanja nya udah bulih pemendar," ku iya.

Iya madah munyi nya lebuh nyaut tanya Hajah Simoi Peri (BN-Lingga) bekaul enggau kemaya projek pemansang RMR dipejalaika ba Kampung Meludam enggau pengawa ngaga renggat kedua projek RMR ba Kampung Lingga. Berebak enggau nya, Simoi bisi nyadaka tanya tambah bekaul enggau kriteria orang ke deka minta RMR enggau pelin rumah ke bisi digaga perintah naka ke diatu.

Bumiputera beli rumah kos sederhana, rendah


KUCHING: Bumiputera di Sarawak lebih cenderung membeli rumah kos sederhana dan rendah, kata Menteri Muda Perumahan Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Beliau berkata kebanyakan rumah kos sederhana dan rendah yang terdapat di negeri ini dibeli oleh Bumiputera.

Bagaimanapun menurutnya, mungkin Bumiputera di Sarawak masih kurang membeli rumah mewah yang mencecah jutaan ringgit.

“Rumah berharga RM20,000 atau RM1 juta tidak menjadi persoalan, yang penting Bumiputera di Sarawak mampu membeli rumah.

“Kita boleh lihat ramai Bumiputera di negeri ini membeli rumah kos rendah dan sederhana,” katanya ketika dihubungi semalam.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas mengenai kenyataan Timbalan Perdana Menteri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin berhubung jumlah Bumiputera memiliki rumah masih rendah.

Muhyiddin dipetik sebagai berkata, jumlah pembelian perumahan oleh Bumiputera masih rendah iaitu sebanyak 36.3 peratus atau RM18 bilion pada 2012.

Rakyat harus bijak memilih


PADAWAN: Rakyat harus memilih wakil yang boleh dipercayai dan mampu melaksanakan tanggungjawab dengan baik. Menteri Muda Perumahan Haji Abdul Karim Hamzah berkata pilihan raya adalah bagi menentukan wakil rakyat supaya menjadi suara mereka dalam parlimen dan dewan rakyat. 

"Oleh itu rakyat harus bijak memilih supaya wakil yang dipilih dapat membawa suara seterusnya membantu mereka untuk terus menikmati segala pelaksanaan kerajaan," katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian pada majlis penyerahan Surat Kelulusan Hak Milik Tanah dan Program Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) Skim Penempatan Semula Kampung Mambong di sini petang tadi. 

Menurut beliau rakyat akan rugi sekiranya memilih calon yang tidak boleh melakukan apa-apa untuk membantu mereka. 

Akibatnya, tambah beliau rakyat tidak dapat menikmati segala bentuk pelaksanaan pembangunan oleh kerajaan kerana wakil mereka gagal menyampaikan suara masyarakat diwakili.

Abdul Karim yang juga Menteri Muda Pembangunan Belia (Bandar) berkata masyarakat Mambong sepatutnya merasa bangga kerana calon Barisan Nasional (BN) yang bertanding dalam Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU13) merupakan anak jati Mambong.

Di samping itu, katanya calon Dato Sri Dr James Dawos Mamit mempunyai jawatan penting dalam parlimen iaitu Timbalan Menteri Pelancongan. 

Impian miliki rumah kini tercapai

KUCHING: Penantian selama 17 tahun bagi 18 keluarga di Kampung Mambong kira-kira 30 kilometer dari sini memiliki rumah sendiri berakhir semalam apabila Kementerian Perumahan bersetuju membina Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) individu untuk mereka.

Menteri Muda Perumahan Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah berkata di bawah skim itu kementeriannya akan mendirikan RMR dengan satu pertiga daripada kos pembinaan akan ditanggung oleh kerajaan manakala bakinya oleh pemilik.

“Walaupun lama, saya berharap apa yang dilakukan oleh kerajaan sekurang-kurangnya akan mengakhiri penantian anda semua…difahamkan kelewatan ini disebabkan beberapa perkara yang tidak dapat dielakkan, antaranya tapak penempatan semula.

“Semua ini adalah usaha keras wakil rakyat anda di sini iaitu Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Bengoh Dr Jerip Susil dan calon BN Parlimen Mambong Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit,” katanya pada Majlis Penyerahan Surat Kelulusan Hak Milik Tanah dan Program RMR Skim Penempatan Semula Kampung Mambong, mewakili Menteri Perumahan Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, semalam.

Abdul Karim berkata peserta penempatan semula hanya perlu membayar RM40,000 daripada kos sebenar rumah berkenaan iaitu RM68,000 seunit.

Mengulas lanjut mengenai skim RMR individu Kampung Mambong sehingga semalam, 18 daripada yang memohon sembilan telah diluluskan manakala permohonan daripada sembilan lagi keluarga akan diluluskan dalam waktu terdekat ini.

Terdapat 19 keluarga di kampung itu yang terjejas ekoran pembinaan loji pemprosesan simen di kampung itu yang dulunya dikenali Sarawak Clinker Plant yang dibina pada 1996 dan dikendalikan oleh sebuah syarikat dari negara jiran sebelum ia diambil oleh syarikat tempatan.

Swasta penting bangunkan industri perumahan: Karim

KUCHING: Syarikat swasta merupakan pihak yang memainkan peranan penting dalam membangunkan industri perumahan di negeri ini manakala pihak kerajaan pula bertanggungjawab mengawal industri tersebut di samping melibatkan diri melalui agensi-agensi berkaitan dengan menyediakan rumah-rumah yang mampu dimiliki sama ada untuk dibeli atau disewa.

Menurut Menteri Muda Perumahan Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, projek-projek tersebut adalah termasuk Rumah Mampu Milik, Rumah Mesra Rakyat, Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) yang merupakan bantuan daripada kerajaan bagi membantu golongan berpendapatan rendah memiliki kediaman.

“Bagi mendapatkan kelulusan sesuatu projek perumahan, syarikat perumahan swasta di Sarawak adalah bertanggungjawab untuk membina rumah-rumah kos rendah berhampiran projek perumahan utama mereka bergantung kepada saiz projek berkenaan,” jelasnya ketika ditanya mengenai kenyataan yang dibuat oleh Setiausaha Parti Tindakan Demokratik (DAP) Sarawak Chong Chieng Jen Ahad lepas.

Chong telah mendakwa beberapa pihak termasuk syarikat perumahan swasta yang berhubung kait dengan kerajaan bertanggungjawab dengan kenaikan harga rumah secara mendadak di Sarawak.

Chong membuat dakwaan tersebut setelah Ketua Pemuda Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) Tan Kai membuat kenyataan mengenai kenaikan harga rumah sejak kebelakangan ini pada minggu lepas.

Karim menjelaskan bahawa peruntukan bagi perumahan rakyat datang daripada kerajaan persekutuan manakala kerajaan negeri menyumbang dari segi menyediakan tapak perumahan tersebut yang merupakan usaha sama yang bijak antara kedua-dua pihak.

“Adalah kurang tepat jika mengatakan pihak kerajaan tidak mengawal harga rumah-rumah tersebut kerana ini adalah bergantung kepada permintaan dan penawaran dan ini dibuktikan dengan rumah-rumah yang dibina yang hampir kesemuanya telah terjual.

Perolehi bajet cukup dalam Belanjawan Negara 2013 menerusi perkongsian pintar

SIBU: Sarawak memperolehi bajet yang mencukupi bagi perumahan awam di bawah Belanjawan Negara 2013 menerusi perkongsian pintar antara kerajaan persekutuan dan negeri.

Menteri Muda Perumahan Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah berkata dakwaan Setiausaha DAP Chong Chieng Jen bahawa kerajaan negeri tidak mempunyai bajet cukup untuk tujuan pembangunan perumahan awam adalah tidak benar.

Katanya Sarawak mempunyai dasar yang tersendiri dengan sebahagian besar keluasan tanah dibangunkan oleh pemaju swasta di samping turut membangunkan rumah kos rendah.

“Sebahagian besar daripada bajet perumahan kerajaan negeri adalah daripada kerajaan persekutuan.

“Sarawak juga mendapat jumlah terbesar bagi perumahan awam di bawah Belanjawan Negara 2013.

“Kerajaan negeri akan menyumbang dalam beberapa bahagian termasuk menyediakan tanah bagi tujuan perumahan di samping mewujudkan perkongsian pintar di antara kerajaan persekutuan dan negeri,” katanya di sini semalam.

Abdul Karim yang juga Menteri Muda Pembangunan Belia dan Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Asajaya, berkata pemain terbesar dalam industri perumahan adalah sektor swasta.

‘Govt has budget for public housing’ – Abdul Karim

SIBU: Sarawak has the lion’s share of the budget for public housing under the National Budget 2013 and has a smart partnership with the federal government.

Assistant Housing Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated this yesterday when refuting state DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen’s allegation that the government did not have the budget for public housing.

“The bulk of our housing budget comes from the federal. Sarawak got the biggest sum for public housing under the 2013 National Budget.

“The state contributes in some way by providing land for some of this housing and this is smart partnership between the federal and state governments.

“Henceforth, to infer that the government does not have budget for public housing is irresponsible and reflects an ignorance of how the government works,” he told The Borneo Post.

Chong also blamed the rising cost of houses on the state government’s policy.

To this, Abdul Karim, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman, said the biggest player in the housing industry is the private sector.

Kapit nadai dalam lis RPR ungkup raban petengan


KUCHING: Bagi menua Kapit naka ke diatu bedau dirintaika dalam lis endur ngaga Rancangan Perumahan Rakyat (RPR)ungkup raban orang petengan.

Taja pia menua Kapit bisi dalam rintai lis endur ngaga Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) lebuh Opis Menteri Pengawa Berumah nengah Opis Pemansang Pengawa Berumah (PPP) deka ngaga 22 unit dalam taun tu.

Pekara tu dipansutka Menteri Muda Pengawa Berumah Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah ba hari kedua Aum Kunsil Nengeri (DUN) Ke-17.

Ungkup pelilih Mit Menua Song, Karim madah naka ke diatu PPP udah nembuka 28 unit Rumah Ulih Diempu (RMM) ba Jalai Takan, pasar Song.

Iya madahka, 83 buah agi RMM deka digaga enti sema belanja ungkup projek nya dikemendarka.

RMR at the new Bengoh resettlement area would have a different design -Karim


KUCHING: RMR at the new Bengoh resettlement area would have a different design with three bedrooms sited on a quarter-acre of land.

This was revealed by the Assistant Minister of Housing Abdul Karim Hamzah when met during and earth-breaking ceremony of the resettlement area along Jalan Semandanh-Skio, about 40km from here yesterday.

“The design of the houses is to meet the demand and request of the affected villagers,” he said, adding that it was also to provide convenience to the people.

Abdul Karim said he hoped the houses would be built to a high quality to ensure house owners are comfortable.

A recreational centre, chapels and community halls would also be available in the resettlement area thanks to Naim Engineering Sdn Bhd, which would provide the facilities under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan officiated at the event.

Meanwhile the villagers of the new resettlement have been asked by the Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit to consider signing up for the homestay programme.
