Ampang attack: PBB man calls for tough action

January 20, 2017

PETALING JAYA: An official of Sarawak’s ruling party has urged the police to take severe action against the attackers of a lorry driver in last Saturday’s incident in Ampang.

Speaking to FMT, PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the culprits must face the full brunt of the law even though the victim has agreed to settle the matter amicably.

“I’m sure many, like myself, want to see justice being done,” he said, adding that no one deserved such a “brutal beating” over a minor accident.

A video recording of the incident has gone viral since it was uploaded to the internet. In the two-minute clip, the lorry driver is seen being attacked by a man in a green shirt.

Shortly afterwards, the first attacker is joined by four others and the group starts kicking the driver as he lays on the ground.

Case of school boys nabbed with drugs saddens Abdul Karim

August 25, 2014

KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Youth Development, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is dismayed with the incident where eight school boys in Sibu were caught with ‘ganja’ in a school bag.

He said the incident showed drug usage in the state had crept into schools.

“I’m sad to hear the latest case of the eight school boys caught with drugs which reflects the state of drug usage in the state and it may not be an isolated case,” Abdul Karim said in a texted message recently.

He hoped this was not just the tip of the iceberg.

He was commenting on a case at a secondary school in Sibu, where six Form 3 students and two Form 4 students were found inside a toilet – one of them with ganja in a school bag.

The report said the case was confirmed by Sibu deputy police chief Supt Martin Koo.

Abdul Karim hoped Education Department, police, Anti-Drug Agency and related agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the community would continue the fight against drugs.
