Karim okay with Khairy's suggestion
SIMUNJAN: The tiff between Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz and Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah should be resolved in the spirit of Barisan Nasional, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Barisan Youth chairman said he believed both individuals should sit down to resolve their differences, adding that it is important the solution should be based on the spirit of Barisan comradeship.
It was reported that Nazri had labelled Abdul Karim, who is Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, as a "greenhorn" over his remarks on the implementation of tourism tax.
"I just discussed the issue with Sarawak BN Youth chairman Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and I hope it will be resolved in the Barisan spirit of musyawarah (discussion). We have the principle of comradeship and consensus, and that the issue should not be extended to the media," said Khairy.
He said that he believes the issue will be settled as it is a policy matter which can be discussed between two ministers.

KUCHING: The state silat contingent has set a target of three gold medals for the International Combat Festival to be held in Penang from Dec 1-4.
The eight athletes will contest in seven categories.
“Definitely our target is to win all categories contested, but we have to be realistic, which is why we target three gold medals,” Rumpun Silat Sarawak (RSS) deputy president Fazruddin Abdul Rahman told reporters after receiving the state flag at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex yesterday.
Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the flag.
Fazzruddin, who is also Tupong assemblyman, said taking part in this festival will further expose four in the team who competed in Sukma this year. RSS is busy with various competition organised locally held throughout the state.
“This is one of the approaches taken to unearth new talent and at the same time select players to represent our state at national competition.

KUCHING: The state government will use its newly found clout to draw more international sport competitions to Sarawak.
“We have just completed organising a World Grand Prix Diving Series by Fina and Asum in collaboration with Asas and the state government,” said Assistant Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“We have succeeded in organising it well and it is our hope that this competition will return to Sarawak in future. I would like to thank Fina, Asum and Asas for bringing this international event to Sarawak,” said Karim after closing the competition at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya yesterday.
On the RM1.2 billion allocated for sports in Budget 2017, Karim said most of the fund will be used to organise next year’s KL SEA Games, Asean Paralympic Games and promotion of sports.
“If I am not mistaken, more than RM400 million has been allocated for that purpose. For Sarawak, we will endeavour to ensure that part of the funds will be channeled to the state,” he said.
Asked if Sarawak had tried to bid to organise some of the SEA Games events, Karim said the state government is always striving to bring in more international events to Sarawak, although the logistics of distance may stand in the way.
“In January next year, we shall be having the Malaysian badminton Masters in Sibu. The event has been confirmed and we will be having a meeting on this matter. It will be participated by many renowned world shuttlers,” he added.
