Sarawak berhak sekat orang tidak diingini, kata menteri

August 24, 2018

Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah also says Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin's outburst justifies decision to bar him from entering the state.

Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah says Sabah, Sarawak retain their immigration rights under the Malaysia Agreement in 1963.

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has slammed an Amanah leader for labelling the state’s decision to bar him from entering a legacy of Barisan Nasional.

Karim said Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin should read up on history, especially on rights of Sabah and Sarawak, when the two nation-states signed the Malaysia Agreement in 1963.

The PBB vice-president said the agreement stipulated the two states had the right to bar those they felt were “undesirable to the state”.

Chong should focus more on Sarawak’s welfare than on polls — Abdul Karim

SIBU: Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumerism Chong Chieng Jen should focus more on the welfare of Sarawak and its development, than on politics and elections, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youths and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In this regard, Abdul Karim points out that there is a long way to go before the expiry of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN)’s present term.

“The DAP (Democratic Action Party) Sarawak only has politics in mind. YB Chong should get down to work as a deputy minister, and should not bother thinking about the state election – unless he is also thinking about wanting to be the Chief Minister,” he said yesterday in response to Chong’s statement about DAP Sarawak staking its claim on 29 out of the total 82 seats in the next Sarawak state election, which might be called in the first quarter of 2021.

ROS didn’t err on Amanah — Abdul Karim

September 15, 2015

SIBU: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) did the right thing when it disallowed Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) from carrying out activities while still under the name of Malaysian Workers Party, Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said.

Hence, state Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen should not have blamed the ROS, he added.

Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development, said: “I am just dumbfounded by YB Chong calling the ROS ‘trying to be funny and nasty’ when the ROS announced that Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) cannot carry out any activities until it has successfully changed its name from Malaysian Workers Party.

“As a lawyer, YB Chong should be well aware that a party cannot start operating or doing activities until they are registered. That is how the law is and any lawyer would agree with that.

“We uphold the ‘Rule of Law’ and chaos would happen if everyone is to take the laws into their own hands,” Abdul Karim said.

He added: “Parti Amanah is not even registered yet, so no activity using that name should be allowed just yet.”

Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, had asserted that there was no reason for ROS not to approve the proposed change of name to Amanah.

Amanah will die a natural death in Sarawak

KUCHING: PBB supreme council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believed Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) would not be able to make any impact in Sarawak.

Being a splinter party, the Asajaya assemblyman doubted if Amanah could live up to its name.

“Amanah will die a natural death especially in Sarawak. It is a party that does not have a specific struggle. It comes about when their leaders got ousted from PAS national elections and they decided to set up their own,” he said.

“In West Malaysia, they claimed to be an Islamic party but in Sarawak, in their effort to win the heart of their DAP partner, they leave matters to their Amanah local leaders to decide their own direction,” he added.

“This is a party which ‘follows the tide’…during high tide, it will go upstream. When it’s low tide, it will go downstream,” he stressed.

Abdul Karim who is also Youth Development Assistant Minister believed Sarawakians would not want this kind of leaders and party in their midst.

“They have no vision on what they want in Sarawak and their leaders here are rejected candidates in past elections. They knowingly or unknowingly let themselves be ‘used’ by DAP in DAP’s agenda to split the Bumiputera. It’s a matter of time, their unholy alliance with DAP will be known and Sarawakians will show them the exit,’ he elaborated.
