Criticise constructively without beating around the bush — Abdul Karim

KUCHING: Make positive criticisms for everyone to work together to solve issues and problems affecting the people, said Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also Assistant Housing Minister and PBB supreme council member.

Criticising without being supported by facts and figures would not benefit Sarawakians, he added.

“Beating around the bush will not make one a hero,” he also told the critics, especially those from the state DAP – be it in or out of the state legislative assembly (DUN).

“DAP wants to see change and change are what they get from our new Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he said.

Since taking over the helm of power, Adenan had made drastic changes in government policies and even people on the street were acknowledging it, Abdul Karim said.

He cited some of the issues Adenan had dealt with: Illegal logging activities and illegal immigrants have been curtailed; electricity tariff for domestic, industrial and commercial users reduced; old land lease tenure maintained upon sub-division of land; toll revision and revocation; and no Hudud law for Sarawak.

These policies and guidelines are being enforced or put into practice, he pointed out.

Karim tells Chong - Sarawak Bumiputera never questioned why almost all businesses are controlled by one ethnic race

April 18, 2015

SIBU: Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen is playing a serious racial game by harping on racial discrimination in business, says Assistant Minister of Social Development (Youth Development) Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said this in response to Chong’s statement in the media claiming that it was unfair for the government to give Pan Borneo Highway project to a single racial group.

“Is he bringing Peninsular Malaysia racial politics into Sarawak?

"Does he want to create racial tension among the various ethnic groups in Sarawak by harping on issues like a business project being awarded to only one race?

"I believe it’s never the government policy to award projects based on race.

"It has always been based on ability, competency and financial capability.

"Or does Chong want to add one more – race?

BN leaders scoff at at toll-free highway

April 28, 2013

“They claim to advocate transparency against abuse of power and others. When DAP Supreme Council election was rigged, none of the DAP Adun (elected representatives) spoke up. Why are all of them silent? Isn’t transparency one of the matters in their agenda?”
- Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

SIBU: Several state BN leaders have called Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) bluff over a towering promise it made to build a toll-free Pan Borneo highway, calling the promise bewildering, especially since PR is still grappling with unresolved issues in the states under its administration.

The BN leaders said it was clear the opposition pact’s intention was just to fish for votes, knowing very well they will not be able to fulfill the promise like all the other things in their long list of unfulfilled promises.

“What have they done in Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan? Highway rakyat announced by Kelantan, what happened to it?

“Just look at Permatang Pauh, have they resolved the flooding issue over there? What about the traffic congestion in Penang?

“If I were to name them, there will be a long list of issues not resolved. Penang is only the size of Kuching yet he (Lim Guan Eng) can’t manage it well, including the decline in foreign direct investments (FDI),” state BN youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof said.

To PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, PR was very good at making promises and dangling ‘carrots’ to entice voters as proven during the last general election when many fell for their trap.

“Many promises were made in Selangor and Penang and what do we see now? Only 15 per cent of those promises were fulfilled.

“Now, they want to do the same thing in Sarawak. So far, we have seen several PR members elected into Sarawak DUN. What did they promise the people before they got elected?

“They claim to advocate transparency against abuse of power and others. When DAP Supreme Council election was rigged, none of the DAP Adun (elected representatives) spoke up.

“Why are all of them silent? Isn’t transparency one of the matters in their agenda?” asked Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman.
