Think of winning seats for GPS, PDP told

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (BPP) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wished that Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) leaders think more of winning seats for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) rather than only about themselves.

He said PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was trying to rock the boat when indicating that PDP would not only be reclaiming three seats – Pakan, Batu Danau and Bekenu – from PBB but also aiming to stake claim on two others held by other components of GPS.

“I fully agree (that Tiong is rocking GPS boat). I hope PDP and Tiong (also Bintulu MP) could think more towards winning for GPS than just for their own (PDP) only,” he said yesterday.

Abdul Karim dismisses PKR’s plan to take over Sarawak govt as ‘wishful thinking’

SIBU: Miri MP Dr Michael Teo’s statement about Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) taking over Sarawak government come the next state election is just ‘wishful thinking’, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sport Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

According to the minister, PKR Sarawak has been expressing the same confidence in every Sarawak state election or general election (GE).

In his recent remarks, Dr Teo called upon PKR members in the three state constituencies under Baram parliamentary area, to play their roles towards enabling PKR take over the Sarawak government in the next state election.

The Miri MP expressed his confidence that PKR should be able to take over Petra Jaya – regarded as the seat of the Sarawak government – if all constituencies could work harder than before, as he highlighted Baram as one of PKR’s strongest divisions.

SUPP can leave GPS if it is not the right platform for their struggle

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has been told to be patient and pursue its struggles under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

The advice came from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Show that you can win over the urban seats and your present state seats instead of ‘venturing’ too far with your ten pointers,” said the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports when commenting on SUPP’s 10-point understanding it adopted during its Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) on Sunday.

The 10-point understanding adopted by SUPP is just an internal understanding within SUPP and was never raised by SUPP with its partners in GPS when they decided to form the coalition of state-based parties.

July 3, 2018

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youths and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has shared his disappointment with Sarawakians over the lack of local MPs in the federal cabinet.

He lamented there was also no representation from the Sarawak Malay/Muslim as well as the Iban/Bidayuh in the new cabinet.

“GPS is even not registered with Registrar of Societies (ROS) yet. Why use the media to put in your terms and conditions?

May 13, 2018

In this regard, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah describes PBB as a ‘well-cultured party that has overcome many challenges in its last 50 years or so’.

February 12, 2018

Abdul Karim: Mawan knows ground sentiment in Saratok

January 26, 2018

KUCHING: Tan Sri William Mawan, the incumbent Saratok MP, has never expressed his desire to leave Barisan Nasional, says senior Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leader Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“He knows the ground sentiments in Saratok well and, as rightly said by him, whoever aspires to lobby for that seat must have the ground support.

“It would be pointless to contest the seat just because the seat is given based on the ‘quota’ as agreed under the BN coalition, but only to lose the seat to the opposition,” said Abdul Karim through a press statement yesterday.
