Karim: DAP leaders have ability to look into the future, just like their boss Anwar

“Maybe DAP and PR leaders are able to foresee and read the future."
- Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

SIBU: Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip yesterday said DAP Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming’s statement at DAP’s Malaysia Dream forum in Kuching that PR would win more votes than BN in the next state election does not amuse him.

Ong was reported to have said that the opposition was now targeting young rural voters as part of its early preparation for the state poll.

“I do not know MP Ong, and they can have their dream. What is unbelievable at times is their patronising attitude. These ‘outside politicians’.

They take the attitude that we need their presence,” Talib, who is Assistant Minister of Tourism, said.

Meanwhile, PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, opined that it was a little too early for DAP or PR to make such a prediction.

“Maybe DAP and PR leaders are able to foresee and read the future.

“I know their big boss Anwar (Ibrahim) can do that because during the last 13th General Election, he declared that PR had won the election during a press conference with foreign journalists at 5pm on polling day when the Election Commission was just about to start counting and tallying votes nationwide,” he said.

Abdul Karim hits out at Anwar over rally

SIBU: The tendency to disrespect the democratic process and voice of the people by holding rallies to vent displeasure does not augur well for the country’s peace, stability and economic prosperity, said PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.

He also said PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not try to change the outcome of last Sunday’s 13th general election by pointing out to alleged discrepancies in certain constituencies depending on his “whims and fancies”.

“It is creating anxiety, instability and not doing good to the economy and business and of course, foreign investors’ confidence…and not forgetting the chaos and jam it created.

“Anwar must be able to accept defeat in an honourable way. Malaysia has adopted a system of election process based on election of parliamentary constituencies and not on popular votes and he should not start barking that PR is the winner now just because PR has got more popular votes than BN.

“The election process of identifying winners should not be changed according to his whims and fancies. It is just like in a football match where one team should not change the goalpost just to help a particular team to win,” Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman, said.

Therefore, if Anwar felt there were discrepancies and irregularities in the election process, he ought to address them through the proper channel, he added, saying the opposition leader should instead file a petition in the court of law and not organise demonstrations and rallies.

“Indulging in this culture of disobedience by holding rallies and demonstration is bad for the country’s image, economy and youths and the law enforcers must be harsh on him and the organisers.

“Malaysia does not solely belong to Anwar as there are millions of other peace-loving silent Malaysians who don’t support him.

Transparency is a taboo for oppositions -Karim

February 26, 2013

“I hope all right thinking Malaysian can see for themselves now…whether the opposition are really sincere or a better party and leaders than BN.” - Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

SIBU: The opposition’s refusal to sign the Transparency International Malaysia’s Election Integrity Pledge unmasked their true colours.

SUPP Sibu branch vice chairman Daniel Ngieng said yesterday this clearly proved that the opposition had failed to walk the talk in calling for transparency.

“I don’t understand why it is so difficult for them to sign it. This shows they are not serious about transparency but merely use it as a political issue to fish for votes.

“They must stand up to be accountable. And, to sign that pledge is at least showing their sincerity to have a clean election,” Ngieng remarked.

He was commenting on Bernama report quoting the Election Commission (EC) as saying that it was a shame that the opposition party leaders were shying away from the integrity pledge.

EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar reportedly said it was incumbent on candidates contesting in the General Election to sign the pledge as the people desired representatives who did not merely profess to have integrity but practise it as well.

PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said: “The opposition refusal to sign Transparency International (TI) Malaysia’s Election Integrity Pledge, only reflect their ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’ or ‘want others to do good virtues but did not practise it themselves’ outlook.

Najib’s visit boosts feel good factor in Sarawak

SIBU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s latest visit to the state has boosted the feel good factor among Sarawakians, including fence sitters.

Several state BN leaders, when contacted, opined that the three-day visit last week had drawn more people towards the BN in view of the fast-approaching 13th general election.

State BN secretary-general and Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi remarked: “The PM has stated clearly BN’s direction and the transformation programmes to ensure a better future for all Malaysians.”

He added that it was important for Malaysia to have a stable government, especially in terms of security and politics.

“PM had revealed his mission and vision for Malaysia, and I am sure this has touched the heart of all Sarawakian, especially the fence sitters.”

PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said enthusiasm was written all over the people’s faces everywhere Najib went.

“PM’s visit to Sarawak has definitely increased the mood and optimism of the people of Sarawak towards BN. The highly-charged spirit and the feel good feeling created would definitely bring more voters to BN, which includes the fence sitters,” noted Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Youth Development.

Abdul Karim tells Xenophon to mind his own business

February 18, 2013

SIBU: Malaysia does not need colonial master-like mentality in the person of Australian Senator Nick Xenophon to meddle in its internal affairs and its day-to-day administration.

Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said yesterday that the country had gained independence for more than 50 years, conducted many elections, and created a stable, harmonious society as well as a healthy economy, building Malaysia to what it is today.

According to AFP, an outspoken Xenophon had been critical of Malaysia’s electoral system.

To this, Abdul Karim, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth Development, added, “He might be a senator in Australia, but beyond Australia’s border, unless he is invited on official capacity, he is just an ordinary person like any other tourists … and should behave like one.

“We don’t need an international police in the person of Senator Xenophon from Australia to teach us how to run our country or manage our election.

“Who is this senator trying to act like a colonial master trying to teach us how to conduct our election, teach us on Human Rights and tell us what to do?”

He was reacting to news report where the Australian politician was detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and deported for security reason.

PR too carried away with dreams — Abd Karim

Posted on January 9, 2013, Wednesday

KUCHING: Members of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) are too carried away, believing that most people would support them, says a supreme member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, however did not deny the possibility that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) would be able to get some seats in the state in the coming general election but this would happen only in urban seats through Democratic Action Party (DAP) and not Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

“What happened during the last state election will be repeated. This is due to problems affecting a BN component party given the task to contest the urban seats and not due to the voters supporting PR,” he said.

In response to a claim by PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the party’s popularity in the state had reached new heights, Abdul Karim said it was a mistake for Anwar to make that assumption “because most Sarawakians are still true BN supporters”.

State BN Youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof also doubted Anwar’s claim that PKR’s popularity in the state had reached new heights.

Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya MP, however said Anwar was free to say anything he wanted, adding that the people would not be easily swayed by such claim.

He believed that most Sarawakians appreciated what the BN government had done for the state and country for the past 50 years, adding that the people were smart enough to evaluate the opposition leader’s claim.
Anwar told a press conference on Monday that PKR was confident that its popularity in the state had risen in the run up to the general election.

Abdul Karim ticks off Pakatan

January 8, 2013, Tuesday

KUCHING: The pledge by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to build the Trans-Borneo Highway from Tanjung Datu to Kudat, Sabah is just an empty promise made to hoodwink voters as the general election approaches said PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“They also promise to reduce price of petrol within 24 hours after forming government. These promises, however tempting are ‘carrots dangled’ to voters. Fortunately, not many Sarawakians will fall for them,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Abdul Karim, also Assistant Youth Development Minister, was commenting on the pledge made by PKR Sarawak youth chief Ahmad Nazib Johari who had said the party would build the highway if given mandate by the people to form the new federal government.

Ahmad Nazib who made the promises at a political talk in Kota Samarahan on Sunday said with the highway, travelling by road from here to Miri which usually took 14 hours could be shortened to just four hours.

According to Abdul Karim, such a promise was impossible to keep even if PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were to be the Prime Minister.

“The rakyat are beginning to see who this Anwar really is. He could have lobbied for this highway when he was the deputy prime minister and finance minister but then what did he do? We have enough of these sweet promises,” he said.

Karim said Barisan Nasional had many plans for the gradual development of the state and would not resort to making election promises just to win votes.

Abdul Kairm foresees scramble for PM post if PR wins coming polls

SIBU: There may be more than two ‘prime minister’ hopefuls should Pakatan Rakyat (PR) come to power after the general election as DAP strongman Lim Guan Eng will not want to be left out of the race.

When giving this view, PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah warned that there would be a big scramble for the country’s number one post if PR had the upper hand.

“Unlike BN, PR is a loose coalition and there is no ‘head’ of PR to automatically become PM if they win the impending election.

“The likelihood of chaos cannot be discounted, where investors’ confidence and the business community are the ones most likely affected. To date, they are evasive as to who would become the premier in the event PR wins because among themselves, whether it is (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim, (Datuk Seri) Hadi (Awang) or Guan Eng, they are keen to vie for that post.

“Before that happens, it is better to put your vote on the present BN government that has proven visionary and brought continuous development to the people.

“BN has time and time proven to be capable in leading the country towards achieving higher level of development and growth besides being people and business friendly,” Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Youth Development, told The Borneo Post.

He conceded while there might be weaknesses BN was very sincere in making improvements.

‘Seeking foreign observers for polls shows opposition’s desperation’

KUCHING: The opposition’s move to get a foreign country to observe Malaysia’s upcoming election has been branded as “desperate”.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this in response to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s attempt to get Australia to influence the election.

“How could someone stoop so low as to seek help from foreigners to meddle in our internal affairs? I hope Pakatan Rakyat supporters could see this and ask themselves that question,” he said yesterday.

He said it was ‘disgusting’ for anyone to beg another country to oversee the running and conduct of elections in Malaysia.

“That only reflects how desperate Anwar and PR are, in wanting to win the election. I wonder how Anwar can claim that elections in Malaysia are not free, when PRU12 (the last general election) saw PR winning many seats and even state governments which are testimonies of a free election.

“What Anwar did are the actions of one who has no love and loyalty to Malaysia,” added Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Housing.

Anwar is reported to have written to Australian Foreign Minister Senator Bob Carr to ask for help to ensure the next election, likely to be held early next year, is free of fraud and corruption.

Hadi is too arrogant to apologise for the 'cawat' remark -Karim

By NIGEL EDGAR

Tuesday November 20, 2012

“Isn’t this the chap who belittled the natives of Sarawak as still backward, still wearing ‘cawat’ and don’t know how to vote? - Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

KUCHING: Some BN leaders cannot fathom how the man who said the Dayaks are still wearing “cawat” (loinclothes) wants to be the next prime minister.

The insulting remark by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang which was made in July 2010 was still fresh in their minds.

“To us Dayaks, this (Hadi to be PM) is looking down on us and very condescending. The Dayaks, even those in the Opposition I think, would know who not to support,” SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom told The Star yesterday.

On top of that, he said, PAS championing the implementation of the Hudud Law did not go down well with some non-Muslim communities and had caused some uneasiness even among the other Opposition leaders.

Mawan, who is also Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) president, urged the Dayak community, especially PR supporters, to think twice when casting their votes.

“We should see it coming. The Hudud Law would be implemented if Hadi becomes PM,” he said.

Hadi had angered Sarawak’s Iban community when he blamed PKR’s loss in the April 7, 2010 Batang Ai by-election to ignorant voters who did not know how to vote and “were still wearing loinclothes”.

Wellbeing of Sarawakians taken care of — Abdul Karim

by Peter Boon, reporters@theborneopost.com.

SIBU: It is puzzling how PKR state vice-chairman See Chee How can urge the people to vote P R MPs into parliament in order to safeguard the state’s socio-economic wellbeing.

A PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said yesterday the needs and wellbeing of Sarawakians had all along been well taken care of by BN, and there was no need for PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to show the way.

“I am unsure what See meant by asking people to vote PR MPs into parliament to safeguard and advance the politics and socio-economic wellbeing of the state.

“Are our political and socio-economic wellbeing not safely guarded and advanced now under BN? Do we need Anwar to do it for us? He (See) should look back into history. Anwar has no love for Sarawak,” Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Youth Development, told The Borneo Post.

He was reacting to See’s call for Sarawak voters to make a change to ensure a substantial number of PR MPs be voted into parliament this time, to safeguard and advance the political and socio-economic wellbeing of the state.

He opined that See and Baru Bian were just Anwar’s pawn to get to Putrajaya.

Anwar could have done wonders for Sarawak when he was then deputy prime minister and finance minister, “but did he do it?”

‘Don’t stir up East vs Semenanjung sentiments’

Posted on September 19, 2012, Wednesday

PR leaders should ‘grow up’ and learn to appreciate that without Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah would not have developed into what they were today.

SIBU: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) should not sow the seed of discontent, ‘fertilising’ it through the Kuching Declaration that could stir up sentiments of ‘East vs Semenanjung’, said SUPP Sibu vice-chairman Daniel Ngieng.

Warning them of the impending backlash through their pursuit of such political gimmick, he stressed that national solidarity and goodwill must be built on understanding and mutual respect.

“Why the Kuching Declaration now? They want to stir up sentiments of ‘East vs Semenanjung’, and thereafter hope to ride on it to derail BN support in the two states.

“You see, national solidarity and goodwill must be built on understanding and mutual respect,” he said in response to PR’s claim to champion the rights of Sarawak and Sabah.

Last Sunday, national and state leaders of PR signed the Kuching Declaration, pledging to restore Sarawak and Sabah as equal partners of Peninsular Malaysia if they (PR) form the next government.

The declaration which contained seven articles was signed by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng and PAS Sarawak commissioner Adam Ahid.

The articles include equal partners (restoring autonomy to Sarawak and Sabah within the framework of the Federal Constitution).

Ngieng responded: “We here enjoy autonomous rights like immigration which BN upholds. Both PAS and DAP leaders have criticised it and called for abolition of our state rights.”

It was ironic how now PR issued the Kuching Declaration with one singing this and promising that.

It was just opportunistic on the part of the opposition, Ngieng commented.

He asked: “Could you trust someone like Anwar to defend your rights?”

When contacted, Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said: “PR should not have sown the seed of discontent on the day we celebrate our state’s independence and on the day we celebrate Malaysia Day.

Karim: Turning Sept 16 into a political event disgusting

September 15, 2012

SIBU: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will make a declaration on Sept 16, which state DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen said would be historical and would give meaning to the Malaysia Day.

PR is not about to disclose the gist of the declaration, dubbed ‘The Kuching Declaration’.

Earlier press reports said the declaration would be signed by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, state PKR liaison chief Baru Bian, state DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng and Sarawak PAS commissioner Adam Ahid.

The declaration would be made during a gathering in Kuching.

Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when contacted yesterday said he had no idea what the declaration was about.

“It does smell of some ‘political do’. If Pakatan plans to hijack this date for a political do, I can only say here that I am disgusted,” he said.

Added Karim: “They have brought themselves so low to the extent of playing politics with our Independence Day…a day which we should put aside politics to celebrate and be proud of what we have achieved as a Free Independent Nation.”

Anwar should follow Karpal Singh’s example — Abdul Karim

KUCHING: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pix right) should follow DAP chairman Karpal Singh’s stand when it comes to instigating party hopping among elected representatives in the country.

In stating this, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah agreed with the Bukit Gelugor MP’s (Karpal Singh) stand that party hopping is likened to an act of betrayal for the people who had elected their MPs and assemblymen.

“Party hopping is not encouraged. It reflects one’s ‘insecurity’, inability to work together and does have an impact on one’s credibility. I’m against elected representatives hopping from one party to another and ‘carrying the seat’ along. If a YB wants to jump party, vacate the seat first and let there be a by-election. It’s morally wrong for him to ‘carry along’ the seat as he is voted and given the mandate by virtue of him representing his earlier party.

“Karpal (pix right) should teach him (Anwar) on this ‘political morality’ as he (Anwar) is the number one advocate of ‘reps pinching and hopping’ and crossover from the backdoor. Since 2008, he’s (Anwar) notorious for that with the latest in Sabah,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Abdul Karim who is also Asajaya assemblyman said while Karpal was promoting loyalty among DAP elected representatives; his team mate from PKR (Anwar) seemed to be advocating the opposite.

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar also echoed Abdul Karim’s sentiment. Stating that party hopping is against the principle of good democratic practice, he said Anwar’s obsession to take over Putrajaya has led him to abandon the basic principle of virtue and integrity of elected representatives. Their credibility will be thrown into the gutter.

“It confuses the people,..the party’s followers and sympathisers as a whole. The people expect the parties which wish to propagate the alternative party system to settle their basic differences first before thinking of governing the country.

Pakatan’s latest proposal yet another empty promise — Karim

KUCHING: Pakatan Rakyat’s proposal to remove excise duties imposed on vehicles in order to slash its prices was concocted just to ‘demonise’ the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said yesterday that Pakatan were experts in making promises, but none of it had ever materialised.

“Pakatan has raised issues such as abolishing PTPTN loan and that varsity education should be free. They also promised a 20 per cent oil royalty to Sabah and Sarawak if they were to take over the federal government.

“They also promised a Dayak chief minister for the state and a deputy prime minister post from both East Malaysian states. They even promise that the country will become a welfare state.

“They promise pay increase, they promise, promise, promise! Of course, all laymen would love these promises. But my question is what happened to those promises made before the 12th general election?

“To date, their promises have not been fulfilled,” said Abdul Karim, who is also assistant minister of youth development, when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was asked to comment on PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli’s recent statement that Pakatan would abolish excise duty on cars as part of its election promises. Recently, Pakatan had also promised to abolish PTPTN loans as well.

Keputusan mahkamah bukti kehakiman M’sia telus, bebas

Karim kata Jangan Cakap Sahaja !
