Think of winning seats for GPS, PDP told

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (BPP) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wished that Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) leaders think more of winning seats for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) rather than only about themselves.

He said PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was trying to rock the boat when indicating that PDP would not only be reclaiming three seats – Pakan, Batu Danau and Bekenu – from PBB but also aiming to stake claim on two others held by other components of GPS.

“I fully agree (that Tiong is rocking GPS boat). I hope PDP and Tiong (also Bintulu MP) could think more towards winning for GPS than just for their own (PDP) only,” he said yesterday.

Don’t participate in Red Shirt rally, Abdul Karim advises Sarawakians

September 14, 2015

KUCHING: Sarawakians are urged to stay away from the Red Shirt rally scheduled to be held on Wednesday as it will only mar the sanctity of Malaysia Day celebrated on that day.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Urban Areas) Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said there was no need for them to join the rally in Kuala Lumpur or even organise it here even though it might proceed as planned by the organisers.

“This is what happens when some leaders choose a certain name or colour to organise rally in the pretext of democracy in a plural society such as Malaysia.

If Bersih 4.0 were able to go out and demonstrate, there will be others too who want to do the same.

“But in my opinion, Sarawakians don’t need to come out and demonstrate by using red shirts on Sept 16.

“If the people in Malaya want to do it, just let them do it, but not in Sarawak where we already live in peace and harmony,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Abdul Karim, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member, said the Bersih 4.0 in Kuching on Aug 29 proved to be a failure after it ended abruptly amid conflict among the opposition.

Karim puzzles why PBB not invited to the PRS-SUPP-SPDP's 'merger of minds'

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is puzzled by the omission of PBB in the “merger of the minds” announced by presidents of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP).

“My only puzzle is why PBB was not invited to be together in this merger (of the mind). Maybe some leaders do not see PBB as relevant anymore and do not fit into their so called merger (of the mind).

“I am unsure of what this ‘merger of minds’ as announced by the three BN component leaders are. They would be in better position to answer what is this merger of mind,” he said in statement to The Borneo Post yesterday.

Karim was referring to the meeting among Tan Sri Peter Chin (SUPP president), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (SPDP interim president) and Masing (PRS president) during a closing of the Gawai Dayak celebration at Masing’s residence, here on Saturday evening.

They announced at a joint press conference that they had teamed up in defending their seats allocation in the BN from being taken over by new party Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) after 10 elected representatives from SUPP, SPDP and Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) quit their parties to join Teras on May 15.

On May 16, the 10 elected representatives met state BN chairman and Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem to pledge their allegiance to the BN despite having left their BN component parties.

Last Saturday Masing said PRS was allocated by the BN nine state seats while SUPP (19) and SPDP (8) which means the three parties would be contesting in 36 seats in the next state election.
