SCV upgrading, renovation completed, all set for RWMF

KUCHING: The upgrading and renovation works at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) in Damai have been completed ahead of schedule in time for this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) on July 12 to 14.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) group general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir said the works were started last month, and most of them have been completed ahead of schedule.

“We have also included improvement works to cover the Internet connectivity and wider coverage for the nearby Damai Central, which will provide convenience for those who will be patronising the three-day festival,” he said.

KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village is all set to welcome visitors to the much-anticipated Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2019, said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“The facilities and the buildings structure of Sarawak Cultural Village are much newer this year and I would like say that we are proud of the efforts that are being put into preparing the international event to the global crowd,” said Abdul Karim during a walkabout at Sarawak Cultural Village here yesterday to inspect the preparation works for the festival.

Abdul Karim shared that about RM13 million had been allocated by the state government to carry out upgrading and renovation works at Sarawak Cultural Village in order to provide a more comfortable and conducive environment to the festival-goers.

16th edition of harvest, folklore fest to be held at SCV

KUCHING: The Sarawak Harvest & Folklore Festival 2019 (SHFF) is back with its 16th edition and will be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) in Santubong from April 26-28.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this year’s event is expected to attract a bigger crowd in view of the promotion undertaken by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and SCV since last year.

“The staging of this four-day festival is also timely because we are expecting a lot of local and foreign tourists who are coming to Kuching for a number of events including the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (Aiffa) 2019 which is on from April 25-27.

Govt may provide wifi at SCV for festival-goers

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah plans to look into providing wifi at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) for the Rainforest World Music Festival goers.

“Since such programmes receive many guests especially foreigners, we need good connectivity for wifi to be there.

“That is the feedback we get from festival goers,” he told a press conference held at SCV yesterday.

None of S’wak’s three major tourism products make it to award

 KUCHING: Sarawak has three world-renowned tourism products, namely Sarawak Cultural Village, Rainforest World Music Festival and Mulu National Park, with the latter even recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

However, none of these major products made it to the 20th Malaysia Tourism Award which was published as an advertorial in The Borneo Post yesterday.

When asked for his comments, Minister of Tourism Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he would not like to interfere with the decision of the organising committee.

RWMF gets 1Gbps connectivity boost

KUCHING: The 20th Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) gets a connectivity boost from Sacofa Sdn Bhd, which recently increased capacity up to 1Gbps at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) and the immediate areas.

This means people in the area can now enjoy free plug-and-play wifi access, a bonus for festival goers, journalists, and social media practitioners.

“In the past, those who came to RWMF complained of bad connectivity. With too many people, the speed was slow and there was no way to share real-time scenarios with their friends and relatives back home,” said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.
