Over 4,000 local, international bikers for KIBW 2017

KUCHING: Some 4,000 bikers from around Borneo, as well as Australia, New Zealand and the United States, are expected at the Kuching International Bike Week (KIBW) 2017 to be held at CityONE Megamall here from Oct 13 to 15.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state government and his ministry are fully supporting the event.

“I believe this will be a grander event than the one organised in 2015 and we will have no problem bringing in the number of participants.

KUCHING: The Kuching International Bike Week (KIWB) 2015 has indeed placed the state in the eyes of the world.Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said such occasion with such huge magnitude had certainly benefited the state.

With the support of various agencies as well as the patron Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Hajah Jamilah Anu, the event would not be amplified as it is, said Karim during the KIBW 2015 appreciation dinner held at Riverside Majestic Hotel, last Wednesday.

The success of this event has made its mark, in which KIBW will be gazetted as a biennial event in the Sarawak Tourism Calendar.He expressed his gratitude towards all parties who had contributed in making the event a success.

“Two years from now bikers will once again gather for the KIBW 2017.”

“Keep on riding,” he stated.

Meanwhile, during the event a total RM32,000 was presented to the Sarawak Heart Foundation courtesy of Alex Wong (Sarawak Bikers).

City to experience massive ‘vroom’ delight

KUCHING: ‘Kuching International Bike Week 2015 (KIBW)’, to be held from Sept 3 to 6 at CityOne Megamall, will be good for the people, business community and tourists.

Assistant Minister of Social Development Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said this inaugural spectacle, which may showcase some 4,000 local and foreign bikers, would add excitement to the run-up to Malaysia Day celebrations.

“KIBW can help promote Kuching as a tourist destination. I have been informed that about 1,000 bikers have thus far confirmed their participation. Besides locals, the others are from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia,” he told a press conference at Imperial Hotel yesterday.

KIBW patron Datu Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, organising chairperson Datin Elly Zalilah from Iron Tiger Bikers Club and Borneo Truevents Sdn Bhd’s managing director Silas Michael Martin were also present. Borneo Truevents is helping to put the event together.

Abdul Karim said internationally known American professional stunt rider, Aaron Twite, would be around to wow the public.

Jamilah said the event was a healthy one, especially for youths, and admitted it would be fun to see so many bikers in the city.

“The state government is very supportive of this event and will continue to support this event in future,” she said.
