PBB leaders pour cold water on united government with Pakatan Rakyat

March 17, 2015

SIBU: Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip said all comments by state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, especially on BN, must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Talib said to be fair, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had started on the right footing, and his emphasis on integrity should be lauded and supported.

“Hopefully the opposition, Chong included, should recognise this and support it.

“We have not heard much about opposition support for an integrity based government. But if DAP is seriously sincere, they should give Adenan a chance with their genuine and full support.

“Unity government is good in concept if everyone is sincere. Is DAP sincere? The statements and actions by DAP indicate desire for domination rather than power sharing, a basis for a genuine united government.

“In DAP controlled Penang, PAS and PKR are sidelined. In Selangor the PR is having a lot of problems. So talk by DAP about unity government is just talk,” he said.

Talib was reacting to Chong’s statement on Sunday that Sarawakians could give Adenan a chance, but as Malaysians, they could not afford to give BN another five years to ruin the country as BN had been given 51 years already.

BN leaders: DAP doesn’t fit in with BN’s agenda to protect S’wak’s rights

March 2, 2015

SIBU: State Barisan Nasional (BN) parties are locally incorporated and their policies are formulated to protect Sarawakians’ rights, which do not fit in with peninsula-based DAP.

According to several state BN leaders, BN’s priority is to serve the people and the coalition does not trust DAP, regardless of the opposition’s agendas.

They were responding to state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s statement that his party would never join BN.

PBB leaders unfazed by the number of seats DAP wants to contest in the coming election

February 23, 2015

SIBU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) can go for any number of seats to contest this coming state election but voters will have the final say on which party to vote, said state BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi.

Dr Rundi, who is also Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications), was asked for his view on the announcement by DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen that DAP would contest in at least 30 seats in the coming state polls.

Chong had said the move was to reduce the burden of its Pakatan Rakyat ally, PKR, in contesting in some rural and semi-urban areas. He also said the 30 seats did not include the proposed new seats.

KUCHING: The state cabinet will discuss the type of aid and contributions to be given to the family of the late body-building great Bujang Taha.

Assistant Youth Development Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state will not forget the contribution of state athletes such as Bujang who had put Sarawak and Malaysia on the global sporting map.

“Personally, it is difficult to find an individual like the late Bujang who had excelled tremendously in the bodybuilding arena to the extent that he had done the state and country proud. His success in his field, it’s difficult to find a replacement.

“On behalf of myself and the state government, we extend our condolences to his family. The state cabinet will discuss on the types of aid to be given to the family,” Karim who is also Assistant Housing Minister told reporters when met at the late bodybuilder’s residence at Kampung Tanjong, Petra Jaya near here yesterday.

Those who paid their last respects included Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Sarawak Bodybuilding Association president Dato Wee Hong Seng and national bodybuilder George Awi William.

Meanwhile, Daud mentioned that Bujang was the type of individual who would not ask for anything.

“It saddened me because he never asked for anything from the state government including allowance. I was thinking of requesting from the chief minister for Bujang to be given a monthly allowance and I hope that the state government could consider this,” he continued.

Karim cabar DAP buka cawangan di Asajaya

August 14, 2013

Asajaya first to disburse BR1M aid

January 22, 2012

KUCHING: Asajaya became the first in the state to disburse RM270,000 in BR1M aid to 540 recipients at the Asajaya Sports Complex yesterday.

Maybank Berhad was on hand to process the vouchers and give out the RM500 cash to the first and second phase recipients.

“The third phase will receive their money after the Chinese New Year,” said Asajaya state assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when handing out the vouchers to the recipients.

The remaining 5,101 people would receive their money in due time.

“We will stagger the disbursement of the money as it involves a huge amount of recipients,” said Abdul Karim, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Housing.

According to him, the majority of the recipients were fishermen and farmers.

“For the BR1M, the government has allocated RM3 billion to be disbursed to the rakyat who need a financial boost,” he said.

Substantiate allegation of traitors in PBB, PBB Youth wing told

“As far as I know, there are no traitors.” Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

KUCHING: The Youth wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) should come up with evidence to support their claims of the presence of traitors within the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

The call was made on Saturday by PBB vice president Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department and Tupong assemblyman.

“We don’t want baseless accusations that can undermine the party,” he said when responding to a call made by an exco member Radin Kadri Radin Budiman on all component parties of the state Barisan Nasional to be wary of the presence of traitors in their midst.

Radin made the call last Friday when commenting on a speech made by Tarat assemblyman Roland Sagah in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) last Thursday that Sarawak would lose its autonomy if the traitors’ secret agenda were realised.

Radin even urged PBB to carry out its internal investigation to ensure that the party does not have any dubious character as its member.

“Whether these persons who collaborate with foreigners are from the opposition or PBB, the leadership has to investigate because only after they are identified can we know whether they are PBB leaders or corporate personalities, and know the full extent of their conspiracies,” said Radin.

Meanwhile, the chief political secretary to the chief minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, denied there were traitors in PBB.

PBB concerns with rumours Fadilah's supporters vs Taib's supporters

May 5, 2011

KUCHING: PBB vice-president Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman said he feared that the party would plunge into disunity by rumours of factions within it.

He said it was unfair to say that factions existed, for instance, between supporters of PBB Youth leader Datuk Fadillah Yusof and party president Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Daud cautioned that such allegations by members could destroy PBB, which is the state’s BN backbone.

“Let us stop this labelling and accusations that there is one faction supporting Datuk Fadillah and another supporting the Chief Minister. Between the two, the YB Chief Minister (Taib) is too high in rank when compared to Fadillah,” the Tupong assemblyman told reporters after a meeting of new BN State Legislative Assembly (DUN) members at PBB headquarters here yesterday.

He made the comment following claims that factions existed in the PBB Youth wing.

Youth leaders were said to be divided when Fadillah was accused of failing to satisfactorily rebuke national BN and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for implying that Taib should step down in order to save BN from another political tsunami in the parliamentary election.

Echoing the Umno Youth chief’s sentiment was MCA vice-president Senator Gan Ping Sieu, who is Deputy Youth and Sports minister. Gan had urged Taib to pass the baton to another BN leader as soon as possible.
