Perayaan disambut tanpa mengira ideologi politik

Abdul Karim makes surprise visit at Chong’s open house

February 21, 2015

KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was a ‘surprise’ visitor at the Chinese New Year open house hosted by state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen on Thursday.

Media personnel at Chong’s house at that time were least expecting the visit of Abdul Karim, since both Chong and him were known for their ‘verbal spat’ in the press and at the State Legislative Assembly.

Abdul Karim, when interviewed later, said he felt good visiting friends like Chong and enjoyed a good chat with Chong and his father, state DAP founder Chong Siew Chiang, during the goodwill visit.

“Well, we might be on opposite sides of the bench and have different political ideologies but that does not mean that we are enemies. I feel good visiting friends like YB Chong.

“I had a good chat with YB Chong and his father during the visit and I believe this visitation during festive events will definitely foster better understanding and goodwill between us,” said Abdul Karim, also Assistant Minister of Social Development (Urban Youth) and PBB supreme council member.

Abdul Karim said Chong, on the other hand, also visited his Hari Raya open house over the past few years.

Meanwhile, Chong said both he and Abdul Karim were still friends despite their different political leaning. “Friends are friends. We are still friends since I have been in the DUN (State Legislative Assembly).”
