PBB Youth wants more exco members

“BN needs to engage youths and understand their feelings and aspirations if it wanted youths to support them. It is not an easy task." -Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

SIBU: PBB may soon amend a PBB Youth regulation to increase the number of exco members.

PBB Youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof said the proposal was meant to enable more youth members to hold positions in the party.

“It will thus give them the opportunity to contribute at the state level,” he said when asked about measures to woo more youths to Barisan Nasional’s (BN) side.

Bernama has quoted Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaludin as saying BN needed to have more support from youths in order to do better in the next general election.

Khairy reportedly said the opposition had a lot of young members, and BN should do likewise as it was important to ensure the voice of youths remained strong and loud.

Fadillah, who is also state BN Youth chief and Petra Jaya MP, said: “In Sarawak, we work for all the people. There are programmes to tackle all segments of society.”

He added there would always be programmes to engage youths, and this ranged from consultations to listening to their views and expectations.

Meanwhile, PBB Supreme Council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah concurred with Khairy’s view that youths played an important role in ensuring BN stayed relevant.

“BN needs to engage youths and understand their feelings and aspirations if it wanted youths to support them. It is not an easy task.

“Youths nowadays are more educated and their aspirations and expectations are different from the older generations,” Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman, said.

He reasoned this was because today’s youths were more exposed to the social media, and global happenings had in some way affected their outlook and way of thinking in many aspects.
