Sarawak international tenpin bowling set to attract 500 bowlers

KUCHING: More than 500 bowlers from 13 countries are expected to compete in the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship at Megalanes Sarawak E-Mart Batu Kawa from Sept 6 to 9.

They include Malaysia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Philippines, Indonesia, China, Thailand and Singapura.

At least 120 local bowlers are also expected to take part in the championship which was revived after a lapse of 19 years.

Kuching to host Sarawak International Bowling Championship 2017

KUCHING: The Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABBAS) jointly with the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) will host the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship 2017 from Sept 6-9 here.

Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said more than 500 athletes from 13 countries, including 120 from Sarawak will be participating in the championship to be held at the Megalanes Bowling Centre.

He said the players are from Australia, Japan, South Korea, India, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Minister lauds Abas for organising upcoming tournaments

KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports will support any sports association that is able to bring in international competitions to the state.

“The international sporting events will bring in many foreign athletes who will be accompanied by officials and members of their families and this is good for tourism in Sarawak,” said its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when receiving a courtesy call by Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) at his office at Bangunan Baitul Makmur in Petra Jaya yesterday.

The Abas delegation led by deputy president Shaifulbahri Shukri and vice president Robert Lu included assistant secretary Angelo Koay, committee members Jackie Ting and Tan Chin Chai as well as Sarawak head coach Jackson Ting.

Karim salutes athletes as Sarawak take medal lead

KUCHING: Chef de mission Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah is obviously delighted that Sarawak have taken the lead in the medal tally. He affi rmed that the state is doing well and called on the athletes to focus on winning more.

“I hope the lead and the gold tally in the table give the contingent the spirit to do better every time they compete,” he said.

Sarawak’s closest rivals in the medal chase are theFederal Territory, Selangor and Terengganu, he added, but he remained confident that his athletes are on track to win the overall medal tally.

Karim, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, was talking to reporters after the victory ceremony for the women’s individual event for tenpin bowlingat the Megalanes Bowling Centre,Batu Kawah.
