Karim salutes athletes as Sarawak take medal lead

KUCHING: Chef de mission Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah is obviously delighted that Sarawak have taken the lead in the medal tally. He affi rmed that the state is doing well and called on the athletes to focus on winning more.

“I hope the lead and the gold tally in the table give the contingent the spirit to do better every time they compete,” he said.

Sarawak’s closest rivals in the medal chase are theFederal Territory, Selangor and Terengganu, he added, but he remained confident that his athletes are on track to win the overall medal tally.

Karim, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, was talking to reporters after the victory ceremony for the women’s individual event for tenpin bowlingat the Megalanes Bowling Centre,Batu Kawah.

On Sarawak’s Nerosha Keligit and Nur Syafiqah Sajeli jointly winning the gold in the event after posting identical scores, he said itwas a “one in a million” occurrence but a happy moment for the state nevertheless.
