July 17, 2016

KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah lauds the Samarahan Bike Fest organiser for making an effort to connect the Borneo bikers with their counterparts outside Borneo.

He said such effort could have a positive impact of the state economy.

“Apart from that, it can also become a tool to promote the Samarahan Division," he said during a soft launch of the bike-fest at a local restaurant here yesterday.

The assistant minister also reminded "my fellow bikers to prioritise safety when riding."

"We often heard about crashes and it saddens me to see a rider down.”

Later he announced a grant worth RM15,000 for the organiser of the festival and urged them to request for more funds from his ministry.

The Samarahan Bike Fest, which is organised by Tegar Bikers Motor Club, is expected to showcase 1,500 motorbikes ranging from scooters, mopeds, cruiser and superbikes from Sept 23 to 25.
Themed ‘Riding for Freedom and Knowledge’, the bike-fest aims to foster ties between bikers from all over Borneo and the community at large.

“We aim to bring in 40 clubs from all over Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and even Peninsular Malaysia and judging from the initial response, we are confident that more than 60,000 visitors will throng the festival site,” said organising chairman Afiq Fikri Ibrahim Afiq.

“The site for this year Samarahan Bike Fest would be Aiman Mall, Kota Samarahan and various activities would be held to inject excitement to the event,” Afiq said.

Among the events were sales booth and exhibition, charity convoy, slow riding competition, ‘Bermukun’ contest, daredevil stunts, bike wash, and drift demonstrations.

The event yesterday also saw the presentation of invitation mementos to 36 representatives of motorbike clubs and also the introduction of Samarahan Bike Fest Beauty Queen contest.
