Dr M has lost his charm, says state BN politicians

July 16, 2016

KUCHING: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's new party would not have an impact in the state in the coming general election.

A Supreme Council member of PBB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said: "...people are already fed up with Dr Mahathir, who is fighting for something so different from (what he fought for) when he was the prime minister."

"And now he is trying to pretend to be an angel,” added Abdul Karim in reference to the infamous ‘Lalang Operation’.

Abdul Karim was giving his comment to a local english daily recently.

Meanwhile the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Masing was reported to have similar view on Mahathir.

He regarded the former premier as ‘having lost his charm’.

Masing believed that with the two Borneo states being the fixed deposits for BN, the coalition would continue to triumph in the next general election.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Land owners should treat their land as their main asset and wealth to be passed from generation to generation, said former Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.

He also said land owners should use their land to the optimum.

As land is their main asset and wealth, he said the land must be kept for the younger generation to inherit, and not be sold as their prices would increase with development in the area.

“Think of your children’s future before you plan to sell your land. Your land is your main asset.

“I urge recipients of land titles to take proper care of their land titles as they are priceless assets,” he told hundreds of recipients for traditional village land titles and Village Extension Scheme compensations.

A total of 553 land ownership titles for Kampung Nakong, Kampung Tanjung Tuang, Kampung Niup, Kampung Tambey, and Kampung Pinang, were given out under Section 18 of the State Land Code.

As for compensation for Villages Extension Scheme, a total of RM9,686,351 was given out to 94 recipients from Kampung Jemukan, Kampung Sadong Jaya and Kampung Tanjung Parang.

Larang masuk Sarawak dilaksana secara saksama

April 15, 2016

Welcome tinged with caution to repeal of ISA

Peter Sibon, reporters@theborneopost.com

KUCHING: The announcement on the abolition of the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last night received mixed reactions from local law makers from both sides of the political divide and a human rights activist.

Chairman of the state BN Backbenchers’ Club and the chief political secretary to the chief minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he was unsure whether the abolishment of the restrictive law was a right move or not.

“For a multi-ethnic and multi religious country like Malaysia, we surely need restrictive laws like the ISA but what is important is that the usage of these laws must be purely against those who pose security threat to the nation and not against political opponents,” Abdul Karim told The Borneo Post here last night.

PKR Sarawak chief Baru Bian said the prime minister was taking a big gamble by abolishing the restrictive laws.

“We welcomed the announcement as it was really high time, such draconian laws should have been abolished long time ago as our country has achieved its independence for almost 50 years,” he said.

Baru who is also the Ba Kelalan assemblyman also stressed that there were still laws such as those under police custody where abuse could still take place.

“So we have to wait and see the outcome of the announcement,” he said.
