As a veteran politician, he has seen a lot things.
So, when he was told about a young mother and her sick baby boy, he never thought that it would be something that would catch him off guard.
He entered his car and went to the young mother's house.
She was staying with her parents in Kampung Rebak.
When he stepped into the house, he could see a young lady was sitting on the floor in the living room.
Infront of her was a thin mattress - and there was a baby lying on it.
The baby wasn't moving. Seemed to b sleeping.
He walked towards the young lady confidently.
Upon seeing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the young lady rose and greeted him.
"BE STRONG, IMAN. I WILL BE BACK." |
After having a short conversation, Abdul Karim tried to have a closer look at the baby, Mohd Iman Qayyim Mohd Nazri.
What he saw is something which he wasn't prepared for.
The 4 month-old baby boy was depending on a breathing machine as he had a chronic lungs problem.
He looked tiny.
Abdul Karim's face started to change. From being jovial to sad.
His flow of words was no longer smooth - it was now stuttered.
Obviously he was trying to hold back the sadness which was trying to force its way to show its face to the world.
When he heard about the young lady was yet to get an assistance from the Welfare Department, his tone changed.
It was a sad-and-angry tone.
The baby girl's treatment cost of few hundreds ringgit per visit to doctor was something unacceptable to him.
Upon hearing the sudden changed of tone in Abdul Karim's voice, the young mother quickly said the department would interview her next week.
This assurance had somehow calmed him down.
Nevertheless, his eyes were still fixed at Iman.
Maybe he was pondering on what the future holds for the young life.
"BE STRONG, IMAN. I WILL BE BACK."
