Adenan is not a dictator

April 20, 2016

PBB Supreme Council member Karim Hamzah takes Sarawak DAP to task for calling Adenan Satem a dictator.

PETALING JAYA: PBB Supreme Council member Karim Hamzah says Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chien Jen does not understand the meaning of “dictator”.

He said by making such a sweeping statement that Chief Minister Adenan Satem was a “dictator in the making”, Chong was showing he was desperate and fearful that his party will get thrashed in the forthcoming election.

“He is trying to make a last-ditch attempt to show DAP is still relevant.”

Chong had made the “dictator in the making” remark when commenting on the increasing number of Opposition leaders from West Malaysia being barred entry into Sarawak.

Amanah’s Communications Director and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad was the latest to be barred entry on reaching Kuching International Airport yesterday.

Karim pointed out that since becoming Chief Minister about two years ago, Adenan had made more than 50 good decisions which had been well accepted by the Sarawak public.

“This is the reason for his soaring approval, as noted in the Merdeka Center survey.

“Is Chong trying to say that the Sarawak public are ignorant when they give their opinion?”

Karim said Chong had apparently forgotten that Adenan had been very good to the Opposition as well as to the Chinese.

“How many years have the Chinese been trying to get acceptance for the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)? Has any CM before Adenan ever allowed the Opposition an audience upon becoming CM?

“Every decision that he made was welcomed by the Sarawak public, including the barring of certain Opposition leaders to the state

“The non-existence of an uproar from the urban educated Sarawak public towards this barring of Opposition leaders is a good reflection that they are supportive.”

Karim said many other Opposition leaders were being allowed in.

“One just needs to go to Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau and Beting Maru to see many Opposition leaders from West Malaysia already campaigning. They are allowed in because they know how to ‘behave themselves’ and not resort to provocative, racist politicking like those who are being barred.

“To Chong, those good days are over. The Sarawak public are slowly beginning to realise they have been hoodwinked all these years.”

Karim, who is state Assistant Minister for Housing, said the Merdeka Center survey, released yesterday, also indicated that Sarawak people had lost confidence in the Opposition.

“The results must have also rattled him (Chong).

“I do agree that the survey is not a 100% reflection of what the feeling is on the ground, but suffice to say that Adenan’s popularity is soaring and DAP’s popularity is diminishing.”
