‘U Are The 1 Youth Carnival’ promises to be exciting event


KUCHING: The ‘U Are The 1 Youth Carnival 2014’ promises to be an exciting event for the public specifically youths from now until October 12.

Organised by Pending 1BFF Sports and Recreational Club and supported by the Ministry of Social Development, it will feature a line-up of interesting and fun-filled youth activities and programmes which will be held at Padang Merdeka here.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who officiated at the event at Padang Merdeka on Monday called on youths to liven up the week-long inaugural carnival.

“There are plenty of activities and programmes for the youths here such as the Malaysia Yoyo Ultimate Challenge, Defence of the Ancients (DOTA) 2 Challenge as well as the 1Sarawak Youth Band Challenge, among others,” he said in his speech.

In addition to this, Abdul Karim pointed out that car and bike enthusiasts will be able to catch a glimpse of classic cars and big bikes on display while 80 booths from higher learning institutions, agencies including the government and private sectors have also been set up.

During the launch, visitors were entertained by various presentations such as ‘silat’ demonstration by Silat Cekak Hanafi Sarawak Association, energetic Zumba performance as well as an amazing yoyo performance by Sarawak’s very own Yo-Blitz which also featured a guest performance by four-time World Yoyo champion Daisuke Shimada from Japan who mesmerised the crowd with his jaw-dropping yoyo skills.

Among those present at the launch were Samariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Hipni, Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan and ‘U Are The 1 Youth Carnival 2014’ organising chairperson Cilla Balla.
