Fitness fiesta keeps the flab away — Abdul Karim

KUCHING: Fitness activities are necessary to encourage people to lead active and healthy lifestyle, said Social Development assistant minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Lately, we can see peoples’ interests in various recreational activities, such as aerobics, zumba, contemporary dance, poco-poco, belly dance and others. These are among the fitness activities that are very popular nowadays.

“They are good as they encourage people to be more active and fit, as well as encourage people to take care of their personal health. We don’t want people to be obese,” he said prior to officiating the Fitness Fiesta 2015 held at The Hills Shopping Mall here yesterday.

Abdul Karim said the event was a collaboration between the ministry and the mall.

“This kind of activities creates a lively atmosphere in shopping malls. The venue is particularly suitable during such rainy weather.

“It allows people to lead better quality life as well as to foster closer ties with each other,” he said.

Also present was Samariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
