Asajaya to remain PBB stronghold despite losing 5,000 voters

ASAJAYA: Asajaya constituency will remain a stronghold of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) although it may lose about 5,000 voters to Muara Tuang state constituency after the proposed delineation exercise.

Its assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also PBB supreme council member, said this is because the party has strong grassroots support and active branches there.

“The party members are always on the ground and even though there will be less branches after the delineation exercise, we will remain strong,” he told reporters after handing over minor rural project grants for his constituency at SMK Hajah Laila Taib here yesterday.

Despite being sad that some of the constituents whom he was close to would be moved to the Muara Tuang, he was confident that the party’s strength would not be affected.

Abdul Karim added that 14 PBB branches in Asajaya would be moved to Muara Tuang.

“Three Asajaya polling districts will be under Muara Tuang seat while some areas in the Muara Tuang (seat) and Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawa will be under the proposed seat, Stakan,” he said.

With the delineation, Asajaya will now have 21 PBB branches.
