Bersih 4.0 rally a waste of time, youths told

August 29, 2015

KUCHING: Youths in the state are advised to stay away from the Bersih 4.0 rally at Song Kheng Hai ground today.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who made the call, said youths should instead engage in more meaningful events and activities.

“My advice to Sarawak youths is not to participate in this (Bersih 4.0) rally … it’s a waste of time,” he said in his WhatApp message yesterday. Abdul Karim was asked his opinion on the rally held at Song Kheng Hai ground in Padungan today. A similar rally is scheduled in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.

“There are many more meaningful events and activities to do this weekend than to go and waste your time at Song Kheng Hai ground, listening to speeches from wannabe politicians,” said the Assistant Minister of Housing.

Samarahan melangkah jauh berbanding majlis daerah lain

Ogos 29, 2015

Ogos 28, 2015

RESTASI CEMERLANG: Pelajar-pelajar kebanggaan SMK Asajaya bergambar bersama-sama Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

CIA candidates will be treated as independents — Abd Karim

SIBU: Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) supporters and sympathisers will have to contest as independent candidates unless they register their movement – CIA (Calon Independent Alliance) – as a political party before the coming election, Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said.

He also said they would have to use symbols provided by Election Commission (EC) and probably could opt to use a common symbol.

He was reacting to the formation of Calon Independent Alliance (CIA) by S4S.

At a press conference here on Monday, former DAP member and Pujut assemblyman Fong Poh Teck announced the formation of CIA – an unregistered body comprising potential candidates for the election which must be held by June 20 next year.

“Calon Independent Alliance or CIA need not be registered as a political party but candidates that want to be associated with CIA will have to use logos that are provided by EC and probably they can opt for a ‘common’ logo.

“This alliance is not illegal as it is a loose alliance ….just like Pakatan Rakyat which is not a legally registered political party.

“Parties under Pakatan use their own party logos in previous election,” Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, told The Borneo Post yesterday.

‘Banks should help first-time house buyers’

August 21, 2015

SIBU: Banks should play a more positive role in assisting first-time house buyers, especially for the low and medium cost houses.

Assistant Housing Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believed this would greatly help the government’s effort to help people own houses, which would also help to stimulate the construction industry.

“It is heartening to see Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) seriously making efforts to address the issues of housing loans with commercial banks as well as looking into coming up with its own Affordable Housing Scheme proposals,” Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, told reporters yesterday.

He was commenting on Sheda state council’s call for the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) to relax purchasers’ Debt Service Ratio (DSR) on housing loans.

The suggestion was to enable more purchasers to qualify for housing loans under the Sheda Affordable Housing Scheme.

Abdul Karim lamented that commercial banks had not been helpful to the low income group in their applications for housing loans.

In most cases, their applications were rejected, he said, adding that the mergers of many banks had further aggravated the problem because most of the applications had to be referred to Kuala Lumpur for approval.

KUCHING: ‘Kuching International Bike Week 2015 (KIBW)’, to be held from Sept 3 to 6 at CityOne Megamall, will be good for the people, business community and tourists.

Assistant Minister of Social Development Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said this inaugural spectacle, which may showcase some 4,000 local and foreign bikers, would add excitement to the run-up to Malaysia Day celebrations.

“KIBW can help promote Kuching as a tourist destination. I have been informed that about 1,000 bikers have thus far confirmed their participation. Besides locals, the others are from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia,” he told a press conference at Imperial Hotel yesterday.

KIBW patron Datu Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, organising chairperson Datin Elly Zalilah from Iron Tiger Bikers Club and Borneo Truevents Sdn Bhd’s managing director Silas Michael Martin were also present. Borneo Truevents is helping to put the event together.

Abdul Karim said internationally known American professional stunt rider, Aaron Twite, would be around to wow the public.

Jamilah said the event was a healthy one, especially for youths, and admitted it would be fun to see so many bikers in the city.

“The state government is very supportive of this event and will continue to support this event in future,” she said.

Abdul Karim hopes SPDP-PRS merger for unity of Dayaks

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hopes the merger between Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will be for the good of the rural Bumiputera community.

He said it would be good if both parties decided to merge as their leaders had always advocated unity of the Dayaks.

“I’m glad this idea (merger) has cropped up again, but hopefully it’s for real, that is, for the unity of the rural Bumiputera and not any other agenda,” Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Youth Development Minister, said in his WhatsApp message yesterday.

He was asked on a report yesterday that SPDP had resolved to work towards merger with PRS by enhancing cooperation and understanding with its fellow Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.

The resolution was made at SPDP supreme council meeting held at a leading hotel in Miri on Sunday and a statement issued by its supreme council member, among others, stated that the party would seriously reach out to PRS to realise the joint proposal made by the two parties some years ago.

According to Abdul Karim, the idea of merger between the two parties had been “on and off” many times, like the Malay saying ‘tengelam timbul’.

“If we look back at history, SPDP and PRS are like two children of the same parents that have parted ways,” he said, explaining that they were off-shoots of BN.

Abdul Karim: State 11MP, a very thorough plan

KUCHING: Sarawak is one of the states that has its own five-year plan which is what makes it different from other states in the country, said Assistant Minister of Youth Development, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Following what has been presented by the Chief Minister for the Sarawak 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), it looks to be a very thorough plan.

“It also shows that the state government plans on developing the state for another five years, following what has been prepared by the 11MP,” he told reporters after the presentation of the Sarawak 11MP during a special sitting at the State Legislative Assembly here yesterday.

Perumahan lebih baik jika autonomi kepada Sarawak

August 18, 2015

Nab illegal online gambling crooks too, not just detect operation, enforcers told

August 13, 2015

SIBU: Vital steps need to be taken to nab the culprits behind an online gambling syndicate, of which existence has been detected by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah made this call yesterday following the disclosure made by the commission’s Monitoring and Enforcement Division chief Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin, who said investigations had found that such illegal service was offered through short messaging service (SMS), run by a local using special equipment.

Zulkarnain was further quoted to have said that although certain ‘off-the-air’ equipment had been used without the aid of existing telecommunication network, the MCMC managed to identify the party that was providing the platform.

On this, Abdul Karim remarked: “I’m glad to hear that MCMC has identified a new mode of gambling services via online and SMS (platforms). (However) I hope it would not stop there.

“We want to see the culprits be charged in court and then penalised.

“We also want those in the civil service and agencies who are in cahoots with them (syndicate) to be reprimanded too.”

In his view, Abdul Karim said there had been an overkill of news highlighting successful raids and confiscation of gambling items by MCMC and other enforcement agencies.

Program pembangunan sepak takraw Sarawak perlu dirancakkan, kata Karim

August 12, 2015

Hadir sama jurulatih skuad wanita SUKMA XVIII Sarawak, Sura Martwangsang.

Selaku Penasihat PSS, Abdul Karim turut memberi penekanan terhadap pentingnya pemain-pemain sepak takraw menjalani latihan pendedahan baik di dalam mahupun luar negara bagi meningkatkan kualiti permainan mereka.

“Ini membolehkan atlet-atlet Sarawak mampu memberi saingan pada pertandingan bertaraf kompetitif seperti Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA).

BN has brought much devt to Sarawak — Abdul Karim

August 11, 2015

SIBU: Barisan Nasional (BN) policies, whether national or state, have brought tremendous development to Sarawak, Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said.

He pointed out this was contrary to the claim by state PKR chief Baru Bian that many of the problems in the state stemmed from the policies of BN government and behaviour of BN politicians.

“The results are there to see. We are much harmonious, politically stable and generally everyone is happy except those that have evil intention of wanting the state disintegrate.

“We just work out and nurture what we already have instead of ‘trying out’ crazy formula of some opposition leaders who only know how to criticise,” Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Baru had also mentioned that his party’s 18-point roadmap was the way forward.

PKR Sarawak launched its 18-point roadmap here on Saturday, which Baru said was meant to address specific areas that needed attention even after decades of BN rule.

To this, Abdul Karim, who is PBB Supreme Council member, said: “How many road maps does Baru Bian want to offer Sarawak? They keep on coming with new ‘offers’ every time there’s an election round the corner.

Sepakat membawa kesejahteraan

August 10, 2015

Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah memotong riben sambil dibantu isteri beliau Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabar ketika menghadiri Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri di Kampung Sebandi Ulu.

ASAJAYA: Masyarakat kampung mesti memberi penekanan yang tinggi keatas kesepakatan dikalangan semua ahli masyarakat sekiranya mahukan semua pelan pembangunan dapat dilaksanakan dengan jayanya.

Keceriaan sempena Majlis Ramah Ramah Aidilfitri.

Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabar bertanya tentang
