KUCHING: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) – Tribal Gathering of the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) is a useful guideline to align business plans and programmes in order to grow the business events sector in Sarawak.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said business events was an important contributor to the tourism industry and also a key area with an enormous impact in nation-building.
“I think all of us want Sarawak to enjoy more Business Events; more meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) that will bring positive impact to our local people, our economy and sustainability efforts,” he said in a text of speech read by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim

Abd Karim said there are tangible impacts from all of those initiatives, which include the transfer of knowledge from experts to local champions, trade opportunities, and expansion of global alliances. These are just some legacies of Business Events which affect so many sectors like medicine, education, technology, science, and other advanced industries.
“We must aIso realise that our common aspiration is to be a successful role model for 2nd and 3rd tier destination. Together, we are capable of transforming this sector and we believe that by working together we can give Sarawak a better competitive edge and further develop this sector into one of the drivers of positive transformation.”
The ministry, he added, was committed to supporting BESarawak and the industry partners’ efforts to champion Business Events.
He added that the gathering was a good platform to share its 2019 and 2020 Strategic and Tactical Planning as they entered the fourth year in completing the 5 -year Business Plan of 2016 to 2020.
“I hope that this Tribal Gathering wiIl motivate us all to continue working together and elevate the industry further for the betterment of Sarawak.”
State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, SCB deputy chairman Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, BESarawak chairman Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Toyad Abdullah, and BESarawak chief operating officer Amelia Roziman were among those present at the function.
