Youths urged to attend TEDxKenyalang

KUCHING: Sarawak youths are encouraged to attend the TEDxKenyalang programme here in November.

The programme is beneficial to the youths as they can engage among themselves in healthy activities and be inspired by those who are already successful in their respective field.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youths and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said several dynamic speakers, who are successful in their own field, had been invited to give talks at the event.

“From the list of speakers given by the organiser, you can see they are very successful people.

“I am sure the participants of this event will definitely be inspired by the speakers who will be sharing their journey to become what they are today,” he said at the official launch of TEDxKenyalang at his office here yesterday.

He is also hopeful TEDxKenyalang could be developed into something bigger as the years go by.

He believed the programme is important for youths, especially those who want to progress in their life.

“To get to a higher level in life, sometimes we need to hear from those who are successful in their respective field.

TED stands for Technology, Education and Design while TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At TEDx events, TEDTalks video and speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in small groups. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, and x means independently organised TED event.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx programme, but individual TEDx events are self-organised (subject to certain rules and regulations).

TEDxKenyalang will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

With the theme ‘Be the Best’, the two-day conference, which is scheduled to begin on Nov 25, will see many uniquely talented speakers from all walks of life sharing their stories.

Among the renowned speakers for this year’s event are Kuching-born Jason Lo, CEO of Tune Talk; Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, Alvin Wee, Magdalene Muuk, Aziph Mustapha, members of Sada Borneo musical band, Dr M Abdullah Zaidell, Anthony Sebastian and Nilam Sari.

Shaped by their experience and ideas, the speakers will explore paradigms that will inspire, empower and motivate participants to embrace new perspectives.

The event is expected to attract about 500 participants.

To celebrate TEDxKenyalang 2017, music enthusiasts and musicians are welcomed to join a songwriting-composing competition following the theme, ‘Be the Best’. The winner will get to perform live at TEDxKenyalang, on top of winning RM3,000.
