SIBU: The indecisiveness of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) over the boycott of the first seating of the new parliament on June 24 shows the party is more concerned about politicking than serving the people.
Saying this yesterday, state BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi commented, ‘The needs and aspirations of the people had become secondary to them,’
He added that PKR could not even decide on the most basic obligation of a MP which was to take their oath of office so that they could address people’s needs and aspirations. “
“They are only concerned about power and politicking, especially Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and people become secondary.
“Do they deserve to be given the mandate? The people will tell sooner or later,” Dr Rundi, who is Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) told The Borneo Post.
He was asked to comment on the different stands between DAP and PKR on whether to boycott the first parliamentary sitting.
Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Kheng was reported to have said he was still waiting for instructions from their top leadership on whether it is go or no go.
PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said: “It is a shame to hear we have a people’s representative who got elected by the people but now were confused on whether to go or not to parliament.
“Looks like, he has got to wait for instruction from KL before deciding. This only confirms what we have all this while believed…all these PKR leaders in Sarawak are only stooges of PKR KL and they don’t put the people, who voted them in above all else.”
Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman, noted Dr Teo’s case was a clear cut case, he still needed to wait for green light from Anwar.
Hence, he sympathised with people in Miri , adding “Having a leader like this as their YB…someone who is confused and unable to make a personal stand even on a simple matter like whether to attend the parliamentary sitting or not”.
Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip stressed that attending the parliamentary proceedings is a fundamental duty of MPs in parliamentary democracy, stressing that it was the duty of the elected representatives.
“Boycotting parliamentary proceedings after being duly elected is betraying the voters, who voted them in. If it is true that is the stand of Pakatan or PKR, something is wrong with them.
“They are making a mockery of themselves. Why waste time in participating in the election in the first place. It is childish,” Talib, who is also Assistant Tourism Minister, said.
“Now this planned boycott – is irresponsible. Representing the people is a serious and responsible endeavour and not a game. It is about time that members of PR tell some of the leaders to stop their childish behavior.
“Let us be blunt about that. The people voted them to speak on their behalf in parliament. That is the essence of parliamentary democracy. Get rid of them,” he said.
