Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Talib Zulpilip said the rumoured union would likely see the DAP continuing to dominate.
“Initially, even when the partner parties of DAP, PKR and PAS (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) were equally strong, there were already fundamental differences among them. It was then a marriage of convenience.
“What would emerge immediately is the disproportionate relationship in the new ‘Pakatan’. DAP will dominate. Sarawakians should be wary about this. The new outfit would be controlled by their big brothers in KL. They are not autonomous,” Talib told The Borneo Post yesterday.
He reckoned that if the opposition were to win seats in the election, they would be mainly held by DAP, leaving PKR and Amanah with reduced roles and influence.
“Amanah being new and their representatives rejected by PAS would nevertheless be used by DAP. It would be a tool,” he said.
State Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the new party
would not be able to garner the necessary support in the state.
would not be able to garner the necessary support in the state.
“Well, this is a democratic country and political parties are free to practise their ideology as long as it is within the law and order.
“But if you’ve heard what is the sentiment among some Sarawakians lately, they are not supportive of any party originating from outside Sarawak. Therefore, I don’t think this party will get the support of Sarawakians,” he said.
He added that BN is well prepared to face all the challenges of the coming state election.
Meanwhile, PBB Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah called the purported opposition pack an expected “unholy alliance” because “birds of a feather flock together”.
“Before this, DAP Sarawak ‘divorced’ PKR and did not wish to have anything to do with them. I won’t be surprised they will swallow their pride and patch things up with them just to show to the people that they are together when they are not,” he said.
As for Amanah, whose founding members are mostly former PAS members, he said it was a case of more of the same.
“They can change their ‘clothing’ as often as they like but on the ground the matter is still the same.
“The people are not stupid. This Amanah party is not ‘beramanah’ (trustworthy) and are remnants of the old PAS. I just wonder what will happen to PAS in Sarawak if Parti Amanah is formed,” he said.
On Thursday, Amanah Sarawak chairman Mohamad Fidzuan Zaidi told a press conference the party is currently working things out with DAP and PKR.
Mohamad Fidzuan said all questions about the party would be revealed tomorrow (Sept 6).
