Abdul Karim wants to meet Gobind over RTM’s lack of coverage issue

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he would love to meet Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo over Radio Televisyen Malaysia’s (RTM) lack of coverage on the events in the state.

At the same time, Abdul Karim hoped that Gobind could make his own decision pertaining to the matter.

“Yes I would love to seen him (Gobind) or the Democratic Action Party (DAP) members from Sarawak can see him, but at the same time I also hope that he can make a decision on his own,” Abdul Karim told reporters today.

Abdul Karim reiterated that RTM is national broadcaster and should not be used as a political tool of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

He claimed that the action of RTM under Gobind’s helm seemed to be “pushing Sarawak to hate RTM”.

“Learn to be an honourable minister and don’t see us and treat us (Sarawak) as not part of Malaysia,” he added.

He said that his statement remarks pertaining to RTM Sarawak’s coverage on May 7 was not baseless as stated by Gobind.

While he acknowledged that RTM had given coverage on some events in the state, Abdul Karim said the figure of political leaders from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was never screened, unlike those from the state opposition.

He pointed out that Sarawak government is a legitimate government and should not be be treated in such a way.

“Do not use RTM as a political tool because RTM being a national broadcaster, is to unite the people and owned by all Malaysians,” he stressed.

Given RTM’s “attitude” towards Sarawak, Abdul Karim suspected that the national broadcaster might have a political agenda against GPS government.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said there were reports which showed that the support of the people towards PH government, including in the state was fast dwindling.

In citing his Asajaya constituency as an example, Abdul Karim said the members of the state opposition were “chased out” by the locals when they wanted to set up a service centre there. -TheBorneoPost
