KUCHING: Youth in the state are encouraged to join the Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM) Top Outstanding Young Malaysians (TOYM) 2019 Awards ceremony which is still open for nomination.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference yesterday, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah informed that the closing date for the award is May 31 this year and for the first time, the ceremony will be held in Kuching.

The awards ceremony will be held on September 24, 2019 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

According to Abdul Karim, the awards recognise youths in the country who contribute significantly to the progress or welfare of society, who will be an example to others, inspiring other young Malaysians to achieve dedicated success.

Abdul Karim also said JCIM played an important role in creating role models for the community.

“Through the service of such organisations like JCIM, the young generation of Malaysians will be able to be developed either through the gathering, entrepreneurship and leadership skills that will help them become future leaders of the nation too,” he added.

Meanwhile at the same press conference, JCIM national executive vice president Ellen Lu commented that organisers of the event were excited that the award ceremony would be held in Kuching.

“We have held this award in Sibu before but it is the first to be held in Kuching. We are very proud to be able to organise it in Sarawak too especially because we hope more Sarawakians will join this award,” said Lu.

A total of 10 categories will be offered for the awards this year, such as Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial Accomplishment, Political, Legal and Government Affairs, Academic Leadership and Accomplishment, Cultural Achievement, and Medical Innovation.
