SIBU: AirAsia’s Sibu-Kota Kinabalu route will definitely help Sibu in its tourism development, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said Sibu is one of the places they are focusing on, especially with the new road connecting Sibu and Kapit which is expected to be completed this year.

“Sibu will be the gateway to the hinterland of Sarawak. There are many good areas in the hinterland which we can now promote.

Abdul Karim said the new route would also benefit tourism industry players, including hoteliers, lodging houses, restaurants, transporters and cottage industry operators.

“We hope that with this Sibu-Kota Kinabalu sector in place we will be able to take Sibu to greater heights in as far as tourism is concerned,” he said.
