The event is jointly organised by Ministry of Social Development and Pending Recreational Club.
Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this initiative celebrated the youth’s creativity, dynamism, versatility and talent. It’s a platform to unleash their musical potential to the fullest.
Auditions would be held in four areas – Sarikei (Aug 31 and Sept 1), Miri (Sept 8 and 9), Kuching (Sept 16 and 16) and Sri Aman (Sept 19).
The venue is the respective town’s civic centre.
The closing date for registration is a week before the audition.
Those who could not make the audition at the specific area can join the audition at other areas, on condition that the band members remain.
“We expect 250 bands from across the state to participate, and we are willing to accommodate more because we want everybody to have a try at the contest,” Abdul Karim added.

Twenty bands will be selected to perform at the semi-finals in Padang Merdeka on Oct 10, and 10 bands vie for the final on Oct 12 also at Padang Merdeka.
The winner will receive RM7,000 and trophy, runner-up (RM3,500 and trophy) and third place (RM1,500 and trophy).
Three consolation prizes of RM500 each will also be given away.
Prizes include Best Band Performance (RM1,000 and trophy), Best Vocalist (RM500 and trophy), Best Drummer (RM500 and trophy) and Best Guitarist (Lead and Bass) also to receive RM500 and trophy each.
Winner of the Band Challenge will be invited to perform at the World Animal Groove (WAGS) Music Festival 2014 in October and Petronas charity event.
Judging will be conducted by artistes such as Edry KRU, Rahim Maarof, Syafinaz Selamat and guitarist Zulkif from Headwind.
Abdul Karim said a Youth Carnival would be held at Padang Merdeka from Oct 6 to 12, where 100 tents would be set up for various activities.
The main stage would be used for nightly performances and competitions.
Organising chairman Sutagahni Zaidoll was also present at the press conference.
