Political parties need capable leaders to grow – Abdul Karim

September 23, 2013

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The strength of political parties such as PBB depends heavily on the ability of its leaders, including those at the branch level, to unite the members.

Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said all political parties would be short-lived if grassroot members were a disgruntled lot.

Abdul Karim, who is also PBB Asajaya branch chairman and Assistant Minister of Housing, said it was also best to have a mixture of young, educated and street smart leaders who have no personal agenda.

“There must be a balanced mixture of members for a branch to be healthy and become the extended arm of the government in reaching out to the people, regardless of their race and religion,” he said at PBB Asajaya branch Triennial Meeting (2013-2016) at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre yesterday.

Abdul Karim noted that the branch members were now more matured and willing to play prominent roles in the party.

On Kota Samarahan, Abdul Karim said it had undergone significant changes when compared to the pre-independence era.

“This is all due to political stability.”

On education, he said 56 SMK Asajaya students managed to get into public universities, and this was an impressive feat for the community there.

To show the government’s recognition for the school, he said Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had awarded the school with RM100,000.
