ASAJAYA: Land owners with land still classified as temporary occupational lease (TOL) land are advised not to sell their land, said Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Asajaya incumbent said that any business transaction involving such a land is not legal.

“As long as the land is still under TOL status, without a grant, it cannot be sold to anyone,” he said.

He was speaking during the Kampung Sebandi Matang Hulu expansion scheme offer letter handover ceremony yesterday.

Abdul Karim explained that village headsmen also do not have the power to authorise sales of land still under TOL.

“It is an offence if any village headman authorises land tran-saction because it goes against the land ownership laws,” he said.

At the same time, Abdul Karim advised the owners to build their house on the TOL land within the period of time allocated.

If not, the land may be taken back by Land and Survey Department, he said.

“Land and Survey gives you three years to build a house and an additional two years if you need to accumulate more allocations to build,” he said.

“If you don’t, the land will be taken back and given to other applicants. There are many people who want that land.”

During the ceremony, 46 people were given letters in the village expansion scheme which involves 310 lots in the area.

Also present were Land and Survey Samarahan Division superintendent Taib Belal, Asajaya District Officer representative Norlizawati Gobil, Penghulu Kampung Sebandi Matang Osman Ayok and Ketua Kampung Hassan Sanusi.
