Giving credits to organisers of "What About Kuching" (WAK)

I have congratulated the organisers of "What About Kuching" (WAK) Festival and had expressed optimism for the annual event to expand further as a good avenue for our young folks to showcase their talents.

The event which started back in 2017 has the potential to establish itself as one of Sarawak’s premier events and to be on par with the world famed Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF). Thank you to the organisers who had invited me to grace the official unveiling of the events' calendar of events and activities for this year.

The 6th edition of the exciting festival will feature a wide array of young talents, from music to arts. During the recent press conference organised by the organisers, I had emphasised the importance of community support, noting that the involvement of local mayors and volunteers had been crucial in the festival’s development.

I have commended the organisers for expanding WAK to Sibu and Miri with the impacts had reached  beyond Kuching, with activities that were held in the two divisions were well received especially by local folks and youths.

Despite retaining the name ‘Kuching’, it is heartening to see that the festival was well-received with the brand “WAK has established its own identity which is impressive and inspiring to all. I am delighted to see that the festival’s increasing popularity both locally and internationally.

The festival has also blossomed into a significant event involving the youth and showcasing a wide array of talents, from music to arts. Thus, I have also emphasised on the importance of community support, noting that the involvement of local mayors and volunteers has been crucial in the festival’s development.

I also hope for future editions of WAK and other local festivals would continue to evolve, drawing more participants from within and outside Sarawak, much like the RWMF has done over the years.
