We welcome the proposal to name the establishment of a scholarship in honour of our national diving queen, Pandelela Rinong Pamg who is currently competing in the Tokyo Olympics. Our Ministry of Youth and Sports Sarawak (MYSS) will study on this matter because it is a good initiative that will serve to motivate aspiring local diving and swimming athletes.
The proposed establishment of the scholarship had been widely mentioned of late and it is basically aimed to enable our local talented athletes to achieve their ambitions to become world-class champions.
Big thanks to our media friends who asked for my opinion on this matter and it can be seen as a good initiative for local athletes who want to follow in the footsteps of Pandelela who is representing Malaysia at the Olympics for the fourth consecutive time.
We also hope for Pendelela to go up the podium in the 10m individual platform event at the Tokyo Olympics this time as well in view of her recent achievements in this year’s FINA World Diving Championship where she won gold.
The Sarawak government has already named our aquatics centre at the Petra Jaya Sports Complex in Kuching after her and similar things can also be done at the National Aquatic Center in Bukit Jalil, Shah Alam.
