KUCHING: More than 2,000 car stickers and decals will be distributed to taxis throughout Sarawak in line with the Visit Sarawak Campaign (VSC).
Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the taxis will be displaying the stickers on their vehicles as part of Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) efforts to promote the state.
“The distribution of the car stickers will involve taxi drivers not only in Kuching but also in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and so on.

“It is one of our efforts to promote our Visit Sarawak campaign in addition to promoting the state through billboards, banners, LCD screens in Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia as well as Singapore,” he told reporters when met after officiating the VSC Car Sticker Launch at Plaza Merdeka’s taxi stand here today.
The car stickers, which will be displayed in taxis for the next two years, also contain QR codes that will direct users to STB’s website.
STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh said the QR codes offer tech-savvy visitors and passengers with instant connection to its tourism website which will be the main source of information for those who are visiting the state.
“We believe that there is more to discover in Sarawak than meets the eye and we want to lead visitors to look deeper into what Kuching has to offer and experience it for themselves.
“The purpose of these VSC stickers are to help visitors and tourists discover these hidden aspects of Sarawak through the QR codes.”
She pointed out that the sticker campaign is just one of the many steps STB has taken in pushing the ‘Sarawak brand’ into the limelight.
“With our recent plane livery and advertising panels inside the cabin on overhead lockers and the meal trays as well as the LED billboards throughout nine states and divisions in the country including Sarawak, we have begun spreading our visuals, storyline and creativity near and far.
“All of these campaigns will certainly spread Sarawak’s branding and name in an effort to increase awareness among the visitors and tourist thus bringing us closer to achieving our five million tourist arrival target by the end of this year.”
Also present was STB chairman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz. -TheBorneoPost
