KUCHING: Norainon Salleh, wife of the late Awangku Omar Pengiran Jawa, did not expect their family holiday in Johor Bahru to be the last for her husband.
Norainon, 59, who was met at their residence in Jalan Bakti Lorong Bakti 1 Off Jalan Sultan Tengah said that her husband appeared well prior to their holiday.
“I could not believe that he is no longer with us because it is very sudden, and we didn’t see any sign of illness, and furthermore, in the morning, we still saw him playing with his grandchildren, prior to taking his grandchildren to the theme park, Legoland.
“Then, we had breakfast and only after the breakfast, he complained of chest pain , so we brought him to KPJ Putri hospital (Johor Bahru), then suddenly the doctor said that he didn’t have anymore hope, he could not be saved. That was very shocking to all of us,” she said and revealed that her husband died of heart disease.
The widow added that the husband was a very kind man who prioritised his family above all else and loved his family especially his grandchildren.
Awangku Omar and Norainon have two sons and three daughters.
Prior to his appointment as the Special Administrative Officer (SAO) to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan in 1992, Awangku Omar was a teacher and a principal in SMK Lawas. He had also taught in SMK Petra Jaya.

Acting Head of State Datuk Amar Asfia Awang Nassar said that he has lost a very close friend and Sarawak lost a kind, humble and very efficient private secretary.
“He was so efficient that he can handle 10 areas during the election period at a time that shows how efficient he is,” he said.
Meanwhile, Awang Tengah who is away overseas with his family, when contacted by media, revealed he was too sad to comment or speak to the media as yet. He did mention that the late Awangku Omar had been with him for the last 28 years.

Minister of Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Education Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah described Awangku Omar as a very experienced private secretary whom the other private secretaries looked up to.
Another close friend, Borneo Post Miri Chief Reporter Philip Kiew, spoke of the late Awangku Omar’s vast experience and network.
“He is personally familiar with Chief Minister of Sabah and Sultan of Brunei’s private secretaries and also to most of the federal cabinet members in the past,” he said.
Awangku Omar passed away in Johor at the age of 59 on Christmas Day.
His body was flown back home yesterday morning and was laid to rest after Zohor prayers at
the Muslim cemetery in Semariang. -TheBorneoPost
