TAWAU: Visit Sarawak Year 2019 receives a boost with the opening of Tawau-Kuching route starting from December 02.
Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, in his speech during the official launching of the new route yesterday said it was also a win-win situation for both Sarawak and Sabah as the destinations are under the Borneo brand.
In addition to that, he was quoted by TheBorneoPost as saying the new route would further enhance the relationship between the two Malaysian states on Borneo Island.

The Sarawak Minister also mentioned that he would make thorough plans concerning the cooperation between his ministry and the Tourism Ministry in Sabah to promote the Borneo Brand tourism sector.
The official launching of the new route was performed by the Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew who expressed her appreciation for AirAsia’s effort and initiative in interconnecting East Malaysia with its latest route from Kuching to Tawau which started its operation on Dec 2.
The four-time weekly direct flights departed Kuching International Airport at 10.50am with Abdul Karim, AirAsia director of Government Relations Zamani Rafique and other officials on board.
The aircraft was greeted with a water cannon salute upon landing at Tawau Airport at 12.45pm and was received by Christina.
To celebrate the inaugural flight, AirAsia is offering celebratory fares from as low as RM49 either way from Kuching or Tawau.
The promotional fare is available for booking on airasia.com and the AirAsia mobile app until Dec 15, 2018 for immediate travel through to December 16, 2019.
AirAsia is offering free seats for Kota Kinabalu-Sibu and Kota Kinabalu-Bintulu flights. The promotion is available for booking until Dec 16, 2018 for travel period between Jan 1, 2019 and Feb 4, 2020. -@ybkarimsays
