It was a modest event but this year's Gawai Dayak celebration which was held recently at the community hall of Kampung Sampun Kelili in Asajaya district had attracted over 500 of our local folks coming from various backgrounds.
The event was organised by the village's security and development committee (JKKK) together with Asajaya District Office. What was interesting was that members from other communities had also joined the event including the Malays, Chinese and Bidayuh folks.
My thanks to the organising committee for having invited me to be the guest of honour in the event which featured an interesting line up of program including the "Kumang Gawai" beauty pageant and some entertainment. In my speech, I have called on our local folks in Asajaya to continue working hard in sustaining the unity and social harmony among themselves. The future is bright for all of us if we continue to live in peace and harmony that will bring enormous benefits for the young generation as well.
