KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah views the problem in Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) with concern, and wants the problem solved so that Sarawak remains in the Malaysian football league.
He said it is not a healthy development to start pointing fingers between the present and past leadership of the association.
“Let there be professionalism on this. If there is a problem about money, take a look at what the problem is. If there is a problem about non-audited statement, then try to get it audited.
“I am not pointing fingers at anybody but to me, football has to continue. We cannot put football aside,” he told reporters today, when asked to comment on the present crisis brewing in FAS.
Abdul Karim also hoped that FAS will raise the issue on finance with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in a meeting.
At the same time, he also hoped that FAM and the federal government will have “compassion” to help FAS so that Sarawak could continue playing in the Malaysian football league.
“If FAM still wants Sarawak, or even Sabah, to continue playing in the Malaysian football league for the sake of national integration, FAM and the federal government have to come and support us.
“Have compassion for us because we want to be part of Malaysia and you also want us to be part of Malaysia.
“I believe that this is a fair request,” he said. -TheBorneoPost
