KUCHING: About 4,000 young people are expected at the state-level Youth Day 2017 to be held at Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall in Betong from Oct 27-29.
The event themed ‘Youths catalysts of inspiration, drivers of innovation’ (Belia pencetus inspirasi, pemacu innovasi) is aimed at reaching out to youths and create stronger ties with them to understand and meet their needs as well as provide an avenue for them to interact with the community and their leaders in the spirit of solidarity.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would officiate at the opening ceremony.
“The logo is a bit related to digital. If we look at the digital note, it is in line with what the chief minister has been talking about all this while.
“The committee has decided to pick this logo because we want to see energetic youths make huge contributions to the state and country,” he told a press conference after chairing the committee’s meeting at his office here yesterday.
Abdul Karim said the activities for this year’s event were mainly designed for youths.
The three-day event is packed with activities such as youth millenium princess and strongman competition; youth idol and battle of the band; youth town hall with the chief minister (comprising students and members of association or agencies); youth and career exhibition; youth kitchen and sales stall; youth rock climbing, nature and wall climbing; youth fun run, autoshow, zumba, aerobic exercise, fun dance, telegames and various sports activities; and children’s drawing and colouring contests.
He said highlight of the event is the presentation of the state youth awards to outstanding individuals and outstanding associations.
Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datu Ik Pahon Joyik were also present at the press conference. -TheBorneoPost
