KUCHING: It is time for the government to upgrade the standard of roads in the state, especially those in bigger towns.
Assistant Youth Development Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this was essential in view of the growing number and size of vehicles.
He noted that existing roads in the state were generally of lower grade and standard, and because of this, it could not withstand the onslaught of rainy seasons.
“Because of the low road standard, it is common to see potholes here and there during the rainy season.
“To prevent this from happening in future, probably it is now justifiable for the road standard to be upgraded.”
He said this to reporters after the launching of Institut Memandu Kota Gading’s One-Stop Centre at MJC Batu Kawa New Township here yesterday.
Earlier in his speech, Karim urged local councils to go around and patch up all potholed roads as they posed a danger to road users.
