Working together for betterment of Sarawak football standards

Kudos to Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) and Kuching City Football Club (KFC) for entering the collaboration agreement which will contribute to the development of our local football fraternity. I thank them for inviting me to witness the signing ceremony of their Memorandum of Agreement that will formalise their working relationship espcially in developing the standards of our football.

In my speech, I mentioned that any sport which carries the name of Sarawak in prestigious competitions should receive assistance from the government. As for football, there are two teams representing Sarawak at the Premier League (national second division football competition). We must make sure that both teams get the help they need.

I commented that the government, through SSC could help in developing young talents at grassroots level and produce high-calibre players for the teams. SSC could also ease the burden of the FAS, who is governing the state football affair. With SSC now involved in the football development in Sarawak, FAS can concentrate more on monitoring the performances of Sarawakian teams competing in the Malaysian League while both organisations will need to work together in the development at grassroots level too.

For the record, there are two Sarawakian teams competing in the new Premier League season, namely Sarawak United FC and Kuching City FC. With the agreement signed, we hope it will be a beginning of great things for the development of the sport and surely it will also benefit Sarawakian football as a whole too.

Such cooperation between SSC, FAS and KFC will help us unearth and groom more young talents in Sarawak even though SSC also focuses in the development of all sports in Sarawak as well. While SSC has contributed to the development of football in some ways previously, SSC is seeing an even greater involvement in the state’s football development starting this year.
