Recently the local media had asked for my comments on the proposal for our state government-linked companies to purchase a substantial stake in #Sarawak United FC but such initiatives must be thoroughly studied before any decisions could be made. I told our media friends that such situation must be on the willing buyer and willing buyer basis.
Similarly, such proposal cannot just be put to the government and be simply adopted like that and it is still a good proposal but it has to be deeply studied first. The question posed was due to moves made by Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president, Dato Posa Majais who had written to the state government seeking investment from government-linked companies to help Sarawak United FC to remain financially sound. It was reported that Dato Posa himself and FAS are the current shareholders and potential investors will be entitled to up to 70 per cent of stake in the club.
On the recent announcement by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri allowing tourism activities to be carried out in Conditional and Recovery Movement Control Order areas, I have informed our local media members that Sarawa is still subjected to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) announced by State Disaster Management Committee.
The SOPs announced for Peninsular Malaysia was in view of the Covid-19 situation there but we will study those procedures as stipulated by the federal government and adapt it accordingly to our local requirements if necessary.
