KUCHING: Sarawak Youths Day 2018 will be celebrated for 2 days on November 16-18 at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.
Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said various activities will be held in conjunction with the celebration.
“The objective of celebrating the Youths Day is to acknowledge the contributions of youths as part of the development agenda in the state.
“Youths are an important group of people in the country and the state, which we must not overlook for their contributions.
“As the government and a ministry that look after the youths, our responsibilities are to ensure youths are being looked after well so that they will become useful citizens as they are the ones who will be our future leaders,” said Abdul Karim during a press conference in his office at Baitul Makmur, yesterday.
Abdul Karim added, through the celebration, it will bring the youths closer with the state leaders apart from giving them opportunities to put forward their creativities and talents in entrepreneurship, patriotism, and many more.
He said, among the programmes lined up are Belia showcase, Belia Got Talent competition, Belia Sihat dan Cergas, autoshow, Bernopeng competition, Puteri Belia competition, Youth Strongman 2018, Painting and Colouring contests for children, State Youths Awards 2018, youth townhall, boot camp for millennia youths, youths and career exhibition, Belia Kitchen and food stalls and youths wall climbing competition.
“The programme for the youth townhall will give opportunities to youths from universities, schools, associations and agencies to have a two-way discussions with the Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg).
“The Chief Minister will launch the celebration on Sunday (November 18),” he said and added that they expect about 5,000 youths throughout the state to take part in the celebration.
He added, during the launching ceremony, three individuals will be selected to receive the State Youth Award (Individual – man and woman) and State Youth Award (Associations).
The winner of the State Youth Award (Individual) will take home RM5,000 respectively, while the winner and the first runner-up for the State Youth Award (Associations) will receive RM10,000 and RM7,000 respectively.
Among those present at the press conference were Assistant Minister for Youths and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, ministry permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee and chief executive officer of the Sarawak State Sports Council (SSC) Dr Ong Kong Swee. -TheBorneoPost
