SERIAN: Youths in Sarawak need to equip and strengthen themselves with the power of knowledge and skills in various fields such as digital economy if they want to excel in life.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who gave this advice, reminded that youths today face various challenges from the economic, social, political and technological point of view in an increasingly competitive global environment.
He said the challenges that they face today are expected to double in the future if they are not managed properly.
He added that the young generation are not only the inheritors of the nation but also the pulse and indicator of the state’s and the country’s progress.

“Indeed, the fate and future development of the state and country depend on the positive value in our youths in terms of attitude, levels of knowledge and skills, culture and employment structure,” he said at a dialogue with youths from Asajaya during a youth transformation programme at Ranchan Recreational Park here yesterday.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports and Saberkas.
Abdul Karim noted that as the young generation, the roles and contributions of youths to the development of the nation are as inheritors of the country’s treasury, as the back-up leaders, as an agent of change, as national development agent and as agent of harmony.
He also reminded teens to always be careful in choosing friends or peers.
“Bad friends often encourage us to do bad or negative things like stealing and smoking, while a good and true friend always encourages and advises us to do the best either through encouragement, advice or exemplary deeds.
“A good friend also will always be on your side when you are in trouble. We can conclude that ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’.
“As such, choose your friends correctly. Friends like these should always be appreciated and loved,” said the Asajaya assemblyman.
Permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Hii Chang Kee was also present. -TheBorneoPost
