State BN leaders attribute landslide win to ‘Adenan’ factor

SIBU: State BN leaders have attributed the landslide victory to the Adenan factor, winning 72 out of 82 seats in the just concluded 11th Sarawak Election.

They said the Chief Minister had created a ‘feel good’ factor.

PBB Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said: “He (Adenan) has created an ‘aura’ of confidence towards BN with his many good decisions since taking the helm of the state in the last two years.

“Sarawakian voters feel that he is a good leader and should be given the chance to lead.”

He said BN was also better prepared for the election this time around.

The avalanche of projects through ‘Rural Transformation Projects’ or RTP the last two years had created a ‘good feeling’ everywhere, which had now transformed into votes, noted Abdul Karim.

“The ‘good explanation’ of Adenan’s policy and decision through his criss-crossing the state and through programmes like ‘Sejiwa Senada’ has created a feeling of ‘real confidence’ in Adenan from all levels of society,” he said.

State BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said it was Sarawakians’ confidence in Team Adenan that had enabled BN to achieve a landslide victory.

BN managed to wrest back urban seats — Batu Kawah, Repok, Meradong, Dudong and Piasau from DAP.

On this, Dr Rundi attributed the breakthrough to Sarawakians including Chinese, who realised that Semenanjung-based parties including DAP were just playing rhetoric politics of hatred, unlike locally based parties which focused on improving their livelihood, a bread and butter issues.

“Clearly to them the ‘Impian Sarawak’ is merely a political ploy without sincerity.”

Asked if the direct BN candidates who had won, would join any of the BN component parties — PBB, PRS, SUPP and SPDP, he said: “We leave that to CM’s wisdom and will cross the bridge when we come to that issue.”

State BN youth chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, too said that Adenan factor had made the difference, which resulted in BN’s sterling performance in the 11th Sarawak Election.

Other factors contributing to the BN’s landslide victory, included the willingness and commitment of all BN state leaders to work as one team and support the aspirations and decision of the Chief Minister.

Fadillah, who is Works Minister, said the federal support and good working relationship between federal and state, both at political and administrative levels had in part contributed to the good performance.

“The hard work of all the party workers and volunteers supported by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and majority of the people of Sarawak, who want to see Sarawak to be a peaceful, harmonious progressive and developed state,” the Petra Jaya MP said.

“This is a bitter sweet victory because we lost a deputy minister and her husband, a member of parliament, a secretary-general of the ministry, police officer and a pilot in the helicopter tragedy. My condolences to the family members,” he said.
