Phase 1 of Kemuyang development project to have 413 land lots

SIBU: A total of 413 lots under the first phase of the Kemuyang development project near here will be allocated to the extended families of Kampung Dato-Kampung Hilir fire victims here.

According to Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, Phase 1 covers an area of 149 acres, with the size of each lot ranging between 10 and 12 points.

“The land clearing works should be completed in one month, and Phase 2 (of the project) will involve another 400 lots,” he said when met at the site yesterday.

Some 3,000 Nangka constituents are expected to witness the launch of Kemuyang development project by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem today.

Additionally, Dr Annuar also disclosed that the project — under Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) — would be equipped with proper infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity supply as well as drainage.

“The land in Kemuyang is more suitable for dwelling — meaning there shouldn’t be any worry about flooding or sinking land.

“The recipients, later on, could construct their own houses on the lots allocated to them. Alternatively, they could also engage other agencies to build (houses) for them,” he said.

Last month, Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg inspected the site.

Additionally, Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said a new satellite town similar to Sibu Jaya might be in the offing for Kemuyang.

Abdul Karim said this could happen if the new village to house the extended family members of the fire victims in Kampung Datu and Kampung Hilir met the population’s requirement in the future.

He also did not discount the possibility of the area having recreational facilities and even a school if it met the requirements.

In 2013, a raging fire gutted 44 houses in both villages, leaving 144 families homeless.
