KUCHING: The first Sarawak Scout Messenger of Peace, Serapi Climbaton and Malaysia Scout Day 2017 will be held at Gunung Serapi, Kubah National Park, on Aug 6.
The Scouts Association of Malaysia (Sarawak branch) and the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports are jointly organising this programme to gather more than 1,500 scouts and others in conjunction with the national-level Malaysia Scout Day celebration.
“The national gathering aims to promote and strengthen unity and peace among scouts because scouts are the messengers of peace,” Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told a press conference here yesterday.
It also creates awareness on the importance of conserving and preserving flora and fauna in Sarawak and indirectly promotes Sarawak as a tourist destination for locals and foreign tourists alike.
The event will be officiated by Abdul Karim while National Scout chief Tan Sri Datuk Sri Paduka Dr Shafie Salleh and National Chief Scout Commissioner Major General Prof Datuk Dr Sin Bidin will be present.
According to Abdul Karim, scouts from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei would take part in the climbaton. So far 41 schools from Sarawak are sending students and teachers to participate in the climbaton.
Members of the public are encouraged to join the healthy event too to help promote Kubah National Park in Matang as a preferred tourist destination.
